i am kind of new to this,I pick up a 1979 srx 440 , the cylinders have visable scuffing or light scratches you can see. When i run my fingernail acroos these marks it does not catch, and i cannot feel them. Can these cylinders be honed if the are plated, not sure what to do.
You will have to post pics, cause you could be actually looking at the original crosshatch, or in fact carbon scratches...if that yr engine did have nicasil it would only need a light honing...
Those cylinders are chrome plated, not nicasil, they can be cleaned with muratic acid to remove any smeared aluminum, be carefull and only drip it on the scuffed area as it eats aluminum. Also do it outside as the vapors are toxic. You can then give them a quick hone a few times.
