Has anyone used a simpson helmet for hte winter?

I am thinking about picking up a Simpson Speedway RX to run when racing. I am wondering if they tend to fog up, and how they are in the wind.

in addition to them not having a dual shield option, they are reallly not known as a good helmet.

This style does look good, but they did not rate well when tested against other brands that cost less.

What kind of racing? That drag bike? If it is for winter sports, you'd be looking at a different helmet for drag racing than for oval. From my oval expereince, I'd want something with those tear off plastic lenses, not sure exactly what they're called, (didn't have such a thing when I was racing) but if you get a spray that blinds you, you quickly peel one off and regain your vision. Thats something you wouldn't need for drag racing.

For riding, I use the modular helmet being marketed by Bombardier, LOVVVE IT! Simply the best helmet I've ever owned! Never fogs up and I'm warm and dry in there, almost like sitting and watching a movie. I bought a black one, removed the BMP stickers and replaced them with some Yamaha stickers, and voila! Probably not what you want for racing though because it is a little heavy. Good luck with your search. G.

I have a Bombardier modular helmet, and a Shoei RF-900 Pascal Picotte edition helmet. I've just always liked the appearance of the simpson's, and there's a guy up here who runs one. I was just curious how they fogged, etc. It is for drag racing only for my snowmobile.

Gorkon, those are called "Tear Off's"

Good choice on the Shoei for your bike. I wear an all black RF1000 on my TLS.

For dragging with your sled, you could probably get away with using toothpaste smeared on the inside of your face shield for fog proofing. shaving cream works too, but the toothpaste will allow you to eat bratwirst and other bead breath goodies in between drags, and not offend anyone LOL.

Just make sure to "buff" it out so you can see through your shield;)

Gee, "Tear Off's"! Who'd a thunk? Thanks.

For fogging you can also use just about any soap, just smear it on an polish it off. There is also a product out there called "CLEAR VIEW" that is basically soap, but is non-toxic and organic that is marketed as a lens cleaner and anti fogging agent, works quite well. You can reach them @ (204) 935-1529.

That works for fogging, but what I found with helmets that did not work that well for winter sports are, that whilst it did not fog with the treated lens, in certain conditions ice crystals would actually grow across the lens obscuring my vision. Thats riding though and not the limited use of drag racing. Best. G.
