Is anyone running a gps using the electrical system from their sled.
If yes, where did you tie in at?
(AA batteries dont last in extreme cold)

I am running a GPS on mine, its a 98SRX.
I tied into the power off of the headlight BUT the power from the sled is AC and I had to convert it to DC using a small rectifier and capacitor. (~$20 of parts and some soldering)
Works great..I leave the GPS light on full at all times making it waaay more useful!

there is also a dc regulator on those early 98-99 sleds, and items such as your gas guage and powervalve test plug all have dc voltage there, the test plug is located right on the left side above footwell.

Hey have you tried using high capacity NiMH batteries? I've had really good luck with them. They actually recommend you store them in the refrigerator or even the freezer to keep them from discharging when not in use so I know the cold won't hurt them at all. Plus they last a LOT longer than alkalines. If you've used them I'm sure you knew that but some people haven't. I have 8 Duracell 2650mAH AA's that I couldn't live without. ![Jump for Joy :jump: :jump:](https://totallyamaha.net/images/smilies/jump.gif)

Thanks for the feedback.
I think I'll go with the powervalve test plug. Keep it simple.

otis, on the 2000-02 srx go right off the blue wire off the headlight dimmer switch, good clean regulated dc power.

I would like to also use my GPS off the sleds power. Curently its mounted right next to the gauge pod
So....on a '97 xtc, can I pull power off the gas gauge right at the gauge pod? if so, which wire is it? thanks

I don't think I will have any problem getting juice for my GPS, however, I am very concerned about which model to get. I have a 700 Magellan in my Dodge Dakota, and if I jar it suddenly, it shuts down, probably to protect a hard drive I think is in it. So that type certainly would not do.. Also, I noticed a built in GPS in an Acura has a feature that allows you to leave a "popcorn" trail of where you've been. This would be what I think would be a dream for a sled GPS, if it's available in a dash mount device. Also, my Magellan will not turn on if it's too cold, and I'm not sure how much it would like the exposure to snow... Is there a GPS out there that addresses all these issues. Thanks, and sorry for the wordiness, just had to get all the questions out there. Steve
on early sleds brown wire off key switch, dual bulb headlight sleds off dimmer switch.
I think most "mapping" GPS units will leave the "popcorn" trail. I know my older Magellan Meridian Gold does it and you can save the "tracks".
I'm interested in wether or not these new "crossover" units will hold up in a sled. I'd like to go to a color screen but not if I'm loosing the features of mapping and ability to save tracks.

gps
I am running a garmin 60c. I rode 840 miles in 3 days MI/WI DEC.27,28,29
600 miles of table top and about 240 miles of spine crushing, filling losening
1 foot to 3 foot mogies. The GPS never shut off once.
P.S. If your runnin trail 17 from Mercer WI to Hurley on an srx with 2 foot washboard keep your speed above 85MPH and the trail will smoothe right out.
Just watch out for that 3 footer the could send you into the pickers..LOL
