My buddy has a 95 vmax 500 i've been helping himget ready. He put a new pre-calibrated comet 108 clutch on it last year. I have the necessary amount of secondary shims removed to acheive proper alignment. Brand new belt.. .question is, why does the the belt squeal so much @ idle. I know its coming from the primary spinning on the belt but is there anything I can do to correct it or just wait for the belt to break in and wear down a bit? Ran it hard last night in varying snow depths for about 20 miles and so far so good.
Do a search on belt squealing & enjoy the long'long'long'long read!!!!
on my 500 it was centre to centre that was off. checking the off-set will not hurt either. cost me 4 belts one season.

OK thanks. How is center to center adjusted? I know the jackshaft is true and bearing good. Motor has never been removed either. O well we'll mess around with it and see what happens.
if i remeber correctly you adjust it by loosenig the motor mounts. i used the tool on mine that i bought from maxperf. i think there is a writeup in the tec pages on how to do it with a tape but i just went and bought the tool. should be a link there for the specs as well.
