Hey guys

Pulled the skid outta one of my buddies srx's for him as i just did mine and he wasnt sure how to do it. He just wanted bearings and slides put on no big deal at all really.

Got that done but then went to the rear idlers and found that the aluminum bushings that seperate the wheels have worn a bit, he doesnt want to spend the money on new ones so i guess the question would be is it alright to have them a slight bit loose?? now when i say loose they arent flopping around at all, but they do wiggle and aren't 100% snug when the bolts tightened up.

If it is/isnt okay to do this what could happen?? worst case scenario??

Thanks in advance for the repsonses

Wheels

Are ya talking about the bushings between the wheels on the rear shaft ? If so, those are clamped tight after the track tension has been set, 17mm on one side and 19mm the other. Make sure to anti-seize the shaft then insert it through the spacers and wheels. Just make sure they have not worn to the point where the wheel does not ride down the track groove like its should. You should be fine.

ya thats the one im talking about, its all back together and i tightened the the 17mm and 19mm up and found that it wont clamp the wheels tight, they dont wander a whole pile but they do wiggle a little I do that they will be fine, i highly doubt that they will jump out of the track groove.... I just dont want to put it all back together and have the dam track de-rail or something and have old buddy they come give me a kick in the you know what haha.

are the 4 washers on the axle , they go on both sides of the rails . without them the nut will just bottom out on the axle. i think it would be hard on the adjuster brackets they seem to bend pretty easy.

I put it back together exactly the way it came apart. Its the actual aluminum bushings you can see the wear on them, how they got to be worn i dont know as the axle should have kept them tight to the point where it wouldnt leave any room for wear.

Has anyone else seen or heard of this problem before??

You may be missing the washers. Take a look on the parts catalog and compare to what you have. You don't want them slopping around at all.

yeah I would think that excessive movement would cause way more damage than your buddy is looking to fix by the sounds of it. I can see the track tensioners taking the biggest blow.

Okay, was looking through the catalogue on yamaha.com to see if the washers were in the correct spots... they are, and i definately put them back in because they were being a @#%$@ to put in, so there deinately there... The wheels will not move anywhere near the thickness of a washer. If you grab the top of the wheel then it will wiggle a little thats all

If all the washers are in there then that means they spacers are worn enuff that the nut on the end of the axle is bottoming out on the axle, so just install a washer then the nut and it will tighten the whole axle up, pulling it all tighter to take up the minor slop, wont hurt a thing aslong as the wheels are in the grooves between the drive lugs.

okay thanks a lot don... lol he'll be happy to hear that... i cant see one of those spacers costing that much anyways... couldnt you just get away with using some aluminum tube??

Bob, anything will work just to space the nut out enuff to snug up the axle spacers, you can just put this on the outside axle nut, no need to remove any wheels or anything, 2 minute fix. At 1 times the sled was probally run without the rear axle nut being tight, and this is how they wear, cause the axle adjusters will still keep the track tight, the axle nut is just to keep the spacers snug and the axle from moving.
