Hey Yall!
Has anyone ever put a new oil pump in a Viper. Mines an 02', it was sucking back the oil last season like I do myself with beer. I made the recomended adjustments, but it didn't make a difference. So I was told to put a new pump in it...well have you seen where that $%#@&*& is located. I think the motor has to be taken out. ANy feed back would be appreciated.
Thanks

Curious...I had mine do that last year..nothing like seeing a full jug of expensive Blue Marble dissapear...Arghhh...but what I noticed and its addressed somewhere on this forum is Cable Pull...for some odd reason my oil cable pulled and extened beyond the
joint part...basically it opened up the oil pump to full...
I'm sure you've might've checked this already...but if not...or onlookers see this thread it might help some...and yes..that bugger is nestled deep in there...if you do pull the engine...when reinstalling...you could add a Torque limitor aswell since you'll hafta realign...
cheers and good luck...

I have never heard of a viper going through oil pumps, make sure that the oil cable is set properly & that the boot is not ripped or anything over the adjustment area, cause moisture may get in there & stick it open...also observe that the pump is in fact returning to the closed position...Do you have handle bar risers, is it possible that when you turn a certain way that the cable is pulling harder on the pump? How does your plugs look, they would be fouling quickly and going through many? Is it smoking alot, I get over 1000 k's before it takes a full qt...I would look to see if you have some sort of leak, but you would see that...

Thanks for the feed back. I did have a look at the cable, it seems fine. The boot isn't cracked and it works fine with the throttle. The sled is stock, I haven't added anything to it in the way of performance or modified handles bars. It does have 9000 miles on it though. As far as seeing the pump, it looks like it returns to regular position, however it is very difficult to see the damn thing. I never really went through plugs but anyone following said she was smokey......Viper Farts! Anyway this is a stumper, at this point I just want the thing running!

Yes it could definately be a bad pump. When the pumps go bad they go to full stroke and use a ton of oil. Get that thing replaced and it will probably use a ton less oil.

Forgot to mention...look inside you throttle lever make sure the end of the cable (oil) is seated inside its groove...sometimes is there is moisture in one of your cables & when you let up on the lever quickly, the ends sometimes pop out of place & catch a hi side...which will create a rich or (lead/advance) on the cable adjustment...

Thanks fro the help. I just got it back last night. The pump was gone! The spring on the actual lever was screwed. When you pushed it open it would stick, and not go back it place. I had the carbs cleaned at the same time......what a difference. I couldn't beleive the response difference on the sled. My mechanic was pretty frustrated with this though. The whole sled had to be ripped apart to get at the pump. I haven't got the bill yet......and I think I can wait!
