So I read some old posts and I can't believe you have to move the engine to get the clutch aligned!!! I just bought a tool from Hi performance engineering and I am about 1/4 inch off on the secondary.....it needs to move to the center of the machine or the engine to the outside/belt side. Is there and easier way than moving the engine around????

Read the instructions again to be sure you are taking the measurements right. Check behind the secondary to see if there are round shims on the shaft between the inside of the clutch and the bearing. There may be too many shims there and that is why you are getting that reading.

lucky me the directions they sent were for a different tool I looked online and it just goes over the primary and the flat piece that goes behind the secondary should touch it. It is off a little and of course no specs on this. Anyone use this type of tool.....its from hi performance engineering. Hooks around the primary and has a handle/arm that rests behind the secondary. ???????????

the off set specs are in the tech pages or shop manual...

Hey sorry it took a long time, that is the tool!!!! It is for an exact perfect fit I assume. Mine is not but is within spec of the yamaha manual. If you take a straight edge to the back of the primary to the rear of the secondary you should have 13.5-16.5mm gap between the straight edge and the secondary....with the secondary held in. Mine is about 15.5-16mm so it is within spec. My wifes sxr is about 14mm......I am sure you could measure the tool in the correct spots and use it also....I had a slight gap between the tool and the back of the secondary and had no idea how much was tolerable without the directions so I ended up using a nice straight edge and doing it that way....good luck!

update...measured my tool if it would fit tightly the offset is 14.5mm
