I f I don't go with a 4 stroke for next year, I am Def getting a 00-02 srx 7.
not only is it apparently fast, (I have never been on one) , but IMHO, one of the best looking sleds ever.
It's great to hear a 5+ year old sled with 100cc's less and merely a clutch setup on it will smoke the new iron.

I had the same thing happen with my buddy. He got an 04 or 05 renegade 800 and was talking it up over the summer. He wanted to race me to prove that his sled was faster so everyday after school I would wait for him on the lake in town and he never would show up. He always "had some where to be". When we finally raced we were dead even across the lake, then he won, then I won, then he won, then I won, etc. After that he kept telling people his clutching was messed up, oh well.
That should be a Master Card commerical, I see it now.
Great job.
Great job.

Hilarious story...I just can't stand why people end up sucking out...hell...I understand pride...but if I've lost at anything I always respectfully shake the guys hand and say...you got me this time...I owe ya a beer!!!
Hell...in the summer I walked over to my neighbours after losing a hockey bet and handed him a case of beer...He was literally eyes wide open...when he asked whats this for...I said I lost fair and square...Ottawa beat the Leafs into the playoffs...Dam..I never did get a free sample from that case either....hehehe

I have a story like that, its one of my favorites, I have a friend who always had polaris sleds, he bled polaris blood only. I have had yamahas steady since about 1998. I had a 2001 black custom 136" srx and he had a new 2001 polaris xc800sp, he had the sled clutched and studded by the local polaris hsop and thier guy who used to race grass sleds before he ever picked it up from the dealer. We raced and he got beat everytime, no matter how we started, stop to a rolling start, etc.
He comes over on X-mas morning and wants to race, now I know for sure he has just had work done to it as he got beat every race and now out of the blue here he is wanting to race again at my door. We go out to the beanfield here which is a good 2000ft long, and we go at it. Again every time he gets beat. We come back to the house and he rips the hood open and almost broke the hinges, heard a few words and he points out that he had got a pipe, new cdi, updated and tweaked VES cylinders, cut head, and more clutching and extra studs put in, he could not beleive what just happened again, and I of course being the nice guy(chuckle, chuckle) said "ya know mines only a little 700"! We went back over again and this time I rode his sled, it did run good, but just couldnt hang with the ol srx. Needless to say, it wasnt but a month later he went and bought a brand new 2002 srx, and to this day he tells everyone, "if ya cant beat em, join em, its alot cheaper"....LOL!!!
Those ol srx set up right can piss off alot of bigger sleds!

I love stories like these. The crap I get out here in the west (mountain riding) for owning a Yammie gets very old. Always hear how HEAVY they are, under powered, Yamaha don't make a "real" mountain sled, etc., etc.
Of course my 144 won't compare to a 159 or 162, but I love the look on their faces when someone on another brand of sled with a comparable track gets stuck on a hill and then watch my "heavy POS" ride on past them. If I had a dollar for every time I heard "I can't believe that Yamaha can get around so well!", I'd be able to retire.

i think its wild how sleds that are 4 or 5 years old now can keep up with if not clean new "state of the art technology" sleds, its hilarious, and just goes to show you how well Yamaha actually builds there products. Of course its up to tuners to get them dialed in properly but once they are, my god look out haha
