Finally got to go out and open up the Viper. I noticed that when I got up over 75 or so and then cut power I got a relatively loud howl from the chain case area. Worse at decell from higher speed. I am pretty confident that we got it put together proper. I am curious if it could be the track rubbing on the front protectors?
I put in a 1.25 predator over the summer. When we first rotated it I could hear the lugs hitting the protectors. But after running it a while on the stand it quit. The clearance is less that 1/8" though and the groves for the protectors don't line up perfect.
I also noticed that the track is very tight. I have the adjusters almost as loose as they will go. Maybe two threads showing beyond the nuts. I have the hartman extensions with the extra wheel kit and the extended hyfax.
Is there something else I should be looking at? I am going to recheck my work and make sure nothing came loose. The chain is adjusted like finger tight.

I think all vipers do it. Its the brakes. I thaught something was wrong with mine the first time i rode it, but its normal. You changed a lot of stuff though so it would probably be a good idea to double check everything.
I would almost guaranty its the track. Mine got a lot louder after intalling tunnel protectors with the 1 1/4" ripsaw track on my Viper S. The track will balloon during decelleration and rub the protectors.
It is an annoying issue with both Viper's I own. BUT, with almost 12,000 miles on my ER , it's nothing to worry about. The only way I was able to reduce it at all, was to run the chain tensioner SLIGHTLY more loose. It's nothing serious, and after hopping on my non-reverse model yesterday, I remember that I originally thought it sounded kinda' cool LOL! Ride it Brother!!

It did howl before I worked on it, but nothing like it is now. My concern level is getting very low. First time I heard it I mashed the kill switch and pounded on the brake. After I rode it for a few minutes it didn't sound as bad.

You know every Viper I have ever ridden has made that sound. I think it is the brakes/chaincase as well. But it definately doesn't seem to cause any problems. Run 'er!

Viper has Bender pipes on it... I notice it, I wish I could remember what it sounded like last year before the pipes, 136 extension, heel clickers and Peak head.

seen this tons of times. ck your chain adjuster. loosen the locknut and tighten adjuster only finger tight and retighten locknut while holding adjuster bolt with another wrench. put sled on stand and run, or take it out for a quick run and then recheck. chances are pretty good that is most of your noise. might be some from the track hitting the tunnel protectors. if you are not studded you can cut your track lugs that are on top of the windows to get rid of that rub. have seen srx's gain 5 mph top end by doing this, no bs.

I found the problem. Wish I would have found it a long time ago.
I had the jack shaft bolts installed backwards. When the sled would decell from high speeds the inside sheeve of the clutch was hitting the bolts. I think I should replace the secondary. It has a consistant scuff/grove all the way around the inside (not the belt surface) of the inner sheave. I don't think it changed the balance as it is consistent. But I am afraid it will crack.

i would'nt have called that a howl i would have thought that would have made a griding noise. and the howl i thought was made from the clutches and the belt contact all my yammies do it.

It sounded about like a big super swamper going down the highway at 75.
