Does anyone have a good way to start up an SRX after sitting all summer? Mine is a bear to get going every year!

lol mine always is to, Finally made up a little homemade tool that fits over the gas tank lid and you need 2 people... one blows in that and forces the fuel to the carb and the other one pulls..... has worked alright for me but im sure others on here will chime in with there ideas... mines never presented a huge issue just takes awhile but theres likely faster ways

^^^ my buddy does the same thing to get his mach z started. He just blows into the gas tank which forces fuel to the carbs and it fires right up.

Every srx ive had starts the following way:
cold sled:
full choke until it fires
half choke as soon as it fires for 20 seconds
choke off and it purrs like a kitten.
hot sled:
give it a little gas while you pull the rope, fires right up.

It helps if the sparkplugs are a little loose (finger tight). That makes it much easier to turn the engine over.
What I do is pull it over about 20 times when the sparkplugs loose and then I will tighten them and usualy it starts in about 5 pulls.
Also, when I put my sled away in the spring, I will turn the fuel valve off so that almost all of the fuel is out of the carbs and engine and then I will siphon as much out of the gastank as I can. I then add a little Sta-bil just to preserve what little fuel is left in the tank. If you leave gas in the sled, that could be a large part of your problem. An engine wont run very well on gas that is 9 months old, even if you put Sta-bil in it.
I tried doing that with my Honda lawnmower one year and it was a pain to get start up again in the spring. I made sure it was full of fuel and I added Sta-bil before I mowed the last time to make sure that stabilized fuel was in the carb. When the next spring came, it took about 20 pulls to get it started and it still ran like junk until that first tank of fuel burnt out of it. I now run it out of gas and siphon out as much as I can and every spring it starts in 1 or 2 pulls.

easiest way yet is too simply take out the plugs and drip some mixed gas in the cylinders, fire it up, you usually have to do it 2 times then it will self prime the system, sure beats pulling it over 50 times.

To add to this, if it floods take the plugs out get a propane torch and heat the plugs and quickly put them back in and she should fire right up.mrviper700 said:easiest way yet is too simply take out the plugs and drip some mixed gas in the cylinders, fire it up, you usually have to do it 2 times then it will self prime the system, sure beats pulling it over 50 times.
Thanks everyone, all good answers. However, i've tried pulling the fuel line from the tank and pressuring the fuel through and then pulled the plugs and dripped gas in about 15 times, still no go. I go through this every year! once it starts its great the rest of the year.

if it doesnt start with you putting fuel directly in the cylinders, you have other issues..... how about turning on the key and kill switch.
you have to put about a good teaspoon of fuel in each cylinder, it WILL start right up, then it will run for about 15 seconds, repeat and have the choke set to full on in the 2nd posistion and it will make the engine start, prime the fuel pump and continue running, its not very hard to do.

That's how i've always done it too-- works like a charm
I never start the sled up until I pull the carbs...clean them up good...then load the float bowls with mix/fuel...then install them back on the sled...usually two pulls is all that's needed...

correct
you should not try to start until you pull the carbs out for cleaning!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so that is the correct answer to your ? then after that there will be no need to pull like he!@!!!!!!

Clean carbs first, yes very wise that is . . .
I take the air hose to the fuel tank vent line. I do this to empty the tank in the spring as well. Just DO NOT use too much pressure. A mini burp of air is all it takes.
