I just went out on my first run. Only put on 100k (60 Miles) and she drank almost 30 litres of fuel (7.5 U.S. Gallons). Now I did just change the rings but this is excessive fuel. I noticed under my air box where it can drain there is a pretty good stream of fuel. Could the reeds be so tired that they are causing excessive fuel to blow back or does anyone else notice fuel under their air box. I purposely left it dirty under the box and now its shiney under the two airbox stems???

At this rate I would only get 100miles per tank and that is horrible for a stock viper.

is the sled hitting on all 3? run it and then touch the pipes and see if ther are warm or cold....... if one of them is cold its flooded out the cylender and it will blow gas out......

thats horrible, but i just bought a viper that basically sat all last year and got rode 150 miles the year before...the carbs are gunked up and the first tank returned like 8mpg and ran like crap with a full bottle of seafoam but it straightened out and im on part to double that this tank

You got a float needle hanging up on you...pouring gas into it...when you have it running, pull one plug wire at a time to see what cylinder changes its idle...the dead one is the one to look at...then thats the carb that need to be looked at...

air box is soaking wet too

My air box is soaking wet too. I took out the reed cages and the reed limiters on the cage look uneven on two of them. What is the spec for this???

the reeds were not seeting to the cages on in almost all cases as well. Should they not be flush with the cages??? Any feedback on this would be great.

I will try your test blues but I cleaned the carbs and the float needles seem to be working nice and free. maybe when the fuel runs they get bad. thanks for the tip.

i bet your carb vent was pulled out of your air box. sled will run but will be pig rich, blowing back alot more gas than normal.

the carb vents were in there tight.....the carbs could have been a little tighter in the reed boots but I took the reeds out and took a look. two out of three sets of reed pedals were pulled from the reed cages by about 1 to 3mm. they must need to be seated better than that. they need attention and I am going to throw in a new set of reeds. especially since they are only $60 dollars this year compared to over $90 last year thanks to our higher canadian dollar

Still High Fuel Consumption

I changed my reeds and the fuel consumption improved a bit but I will be lucky to get 100 miles out of the tank. As I have said I just changed the rings...should I expect things to get better or look elsewhere for my problem. Plugs are a nice tan color..seems to be running good. It would be great if I could get myself another rack of carbs and give them a try on my machine. This is driving me nuts!!!!!!!!

this is a bone stock viper? no clutch kit ?or gearing changes?, stock track?
