04 Viper has a problem with blowing the cap off when i hit the throttle hard. Idle is fine. There is no air in the system, and its not running hot. My digital probe shows 190 at the engine and 135 at the thermostat housing. It does have an opticool head gasket and bender head mod for pipes. The sled has a very small rear heat exchanger that has been changed from the origianal. Could that be the problem, or do i have an internal engine problem? Compression is good, piston wash is good, and the plugs are brown and dry. The sled runs great and goes like hell. Only i can't ride it cause my rt leg gets full of antifreeze as soon as i get on the throttle. It will only do it when the engine is warm and the thermostat open. Any idea's?

leaking headgasket somewhere, thats where all the extra pressure is coming from.

I pumped air into the cylinders with the piston at the top, witch wasn't easy to hold by the way. I got no bubbles in the tank. The head gasket is new and torqued to 25lbs as per benders instructions. Seems a bit low to me though. I torqued them 3 times. But i havn't re torqued after running the engine. Do you think its needed?

Humm!!!

How's the color...is it getting darker...most likely at leak occurring while under hi revs at hi temp, causing your leak…re torque head while warm not hot

Antifreeze is nice and green. I did notice a wisp of smoke from the tank with the cap off when i start the engine. I'm going to go retorque the head right now. Funny thing, i changed the head gasket on my other viper at the same time and no problem on that one.

double check the cap make sure its not bad. "gasket or seal in cap bad or not holding any pres" if you know someone with a coolant pres. tester you can test the cap, if it tests out good put it on the sled and run it and watch the gauge on and see if it builds pres. if it does then ya know its coming from a head gasket/base gasket/cracked cylinder ect ect. good luck.... chris..

Clean the cap with brake clean or carb kleen...I also grease the base seal before installing it...

I tried the cap from my other sled, it did the same thing. I just retorqued the head to 30 lbs. They were all a bit loose. My torque wrench is pretty old. It didn't take mutch before it clicked at 25 lbs. I figure they were just not tight enough. I fired the engine and no smoke from the tank. I won't get to ride till next weekend. Hopefully that did it. Thanks again guy's.

Just an update. After re torquing the head the problem is gone. During the week i installed a torque limiter, new belt, jetted up to 170 on the mains, and put the stock top gear back in. Totally new animal. This thing really fly's. I'm still breaking in the belt so i didn't do any long wide open runs. The few short ones were amazing though. I really have to thank everyone on this site for all the great information i'v gotten so far. I'm so happy i became a life member. Thanks again, Jeff. :jump:
