This is my first SRX it wasn’t running when I got it so I don’t know if this is normal. Today was the first time I had this thing running and here is what I noticed. When I stop after riding it takes the engine about 5 to 10 seconds to go down to the idle speed. Even though I release the throttle the engine still idles at about 3000 for a few seconds and then slowly comes down to 1800 rpms. Again this is my first SRX and I don’t know if this is something they do (maybe due to the power valves). Any input, thank you.

Take your carbs off and open up your fuel screw a bit more.See what it is at firstly.Had to turn mine out to 1 3/4 from the stock 1 1/8 turns to get my idle to come down.Mean time give your carbs a good cleaning since they will be off the motor.

How long ago did you readjust the fuel screw, is the sled running ok. I am a little concern as far as drifting away from the factory settings.

Not going to hurt a thing, over time/miles factory settings sometimes need adjusting, you'll need to pull off your carb rack and under neth there fuel screws, first off lightly tight'en them to a seated position,record/remember that setting(how many turns)then turn them out 1 7/8 to 2 turns, should help, you want your idle to at about 17-1800 rpm's..

also wile you have them out now is a good time to go right through them and clean 'em good..

Thanks for the info, I just finished rebuilding the motor (bad crank) while I was at it I cleaned the carbs and reset the fuel screws to factory setting of 1-1/8 of a turn. I'll take the crabs out and increase the screw setting to 1-1/2 or 1-3/4. In addition, yesterday I put 30 miles on the sled after the rebuild as I was reading the plugs during the run, I noticed that the plug on cylinder #3 is slightly darker than 1 and 2 (plugs on 1 and 2 are pretty clean) do I have any reason to worry? Please let me know. Thank you.

POst up some good clear angles of the plugs and we can help ya better.

make sure there used plugs, hard to read a new plug..

that might not be enough if you got a bad idle hang, you may need 1 7/8 to 2 but you'll know..

Ok, I'll start with 1-7/8 of a turn. As far as the plugs, they are new (30 miles on them) should I post them or wait untill they get a little bit more used.

Go ahead and post 'em up, we'll try to give ya a reading on 'em...

but more miles will be better for sure.

Got it, thanks will do later today. On the other note how hard is it to change the track runners (hyfax) how long should it take, is there an easy prosidure or a trick that I can use?

Here are the pictures of the plugs (plugs only have 30 miles on them after the motor rebuild). The plugs are not as dark as the pictures make them, what I am concerned about is the plugs from cylinder 1 and 2 (the number of the cylinder that the plug came from is in the background of the pictures written on the paper) look pretty clean and consistent while the plug from the cylinder 3 (the cylinder that had a damaged piston) looks much darker than 1 and 2. If you would like to see better pictures please let me know. Please advise, thank you.

Any suggestions on what to look for (warning signs on the spark plug condition) as I continue putting miles on the sled? All though it was fun rebuilding the engine I am not sure I want to go through that again in that short of a time. Thanks.

you want cardboard brown NOT white, use a pen light also to look down into the cyl. and look @ the top of your piston to look @ piston wash..

Sorry I am not familiar with the term piston wash what does that mean. What am I looking for?

Go into the technical pages and under engine there is sparkplug info and proper pistion wash info.......There is good pictures and info that will help you out....listen to daman he knows what he is talking about....you are going to have to put some more miles on those plugs or you can't tell a thing....if you look at the pictures I am talking about you will see why. good luck!!!!!

Mine idled perfect. Then when I cleaned the PV's, I idled it down to open the valves. When I was done & started it & reset the idle, it started to get the "hanging" idle that you mentioned. Someone said on here to turn the idle up & down a few times while it is running...took care of it. Idles just fine like it used to. May try this first, takes 2 minutes.
