I know it's not a yamaha , but it's her first sled. I bleed blue and I know in time, she will too.
It's a 99 500 xc in perfect condition with 3300 miles on it. I picked it up for a very fair price, but the shape it's in is definitly what sold it for me. I think it made for a great B-day present.

That's a good solid sled. I had a 98 600 XC that I sold to a friend. It remains trouble free.

Those Indy 500's are like the Phazer of Polaris sleds. Dead nuts reliable. Nice clean sled you got there.

i work at a polris dealership and the 500 motors are pretty good. watch out on thoes skis tho. check right where the bolt is for any egging in the bracket or a crack on top. already had to do 3 sets of skis this year and only have had in 6 with that style ski. nothing sucks more then having a ski fall off at 70 mph. its somthing to def look for on thoes. does that have the extra 10? i think it does. if it does check ur front torque arm for cracks where it pivots on the rails. the pipe cracks around the welds. other then that i cant think of anything else to have u look for off the top of my head.
not trying to harp on the sled just trying to help u catch some small things befor they become a disaster

Thats not an Indy 500, its a 500 XC. Big difference. Its still a nice sled though.shortstop20 said:Those Indy 500's are like the Phazer of Polaris sleds. Dead nuts reliable. Nice clean sled you got there.
Those are sleds are pretty bulletproof. The only XCs that were ever really much trouble were the 700 and 800 XCs. They had issues with crank bearings failing, which was mostly because of poor quality control on Polaris' part. My Polaris has an engine that is very similar to the one that 500 XC has and at 6500+ miles mine is still going.
I bleede Yamaha blue as much as anyone on this site, but those are nice sleds.

This sled does have the xtra 10. I will check the suspension. I assume it is similar to yamaha's W arm? I have welded on many of those. I've always wanted to try one that was reinforced, or do it myself. I'm somewhat familiar with the ski's. They need new carbides so i will take a look at the mounts. Thanks a lot guys for the good reviews!
BTW, Maine sledding is getting good already!!!!!, this is the coldest winter we've had in a long time. How is it everywhere else?

Is it a Fugi engine or Liberty engine. Fugi was about 70 hp and bulit proof .Still in this years line up. Liberty 500 with the power valves were close to 90hp or 100 hp. Memory fading. Good engine also plus it was a little sleeper. Gave some 600's a good run. They dropped a liberty 500 because they still have contracts obligations with Fugi Heavy Industries. Either way a good sled for the lady friend.

this motor is the US built non VES rated at 90hp case reed twin, not the 488 fuji piston port lc. later they went to the VES design on the liberty 500 and thpose pulled like 105 hp.
either way, yeah, these are great sleds.
I have a 00 xc600sp VES, and have had not one issue on it in the 5k I have put on it since I bought it new in the fall of 99. my sled haas the same small block bottom end, with a 600cc top end and the VES.
look at the jugs on that 500, and you will see the bosses for the VES, but no VES til like 00, at least on the 45th anniversary red and black ones.

yup 2000 is when they all got VES, 500-600cc Liberty engines.

Pretty sure the 700s did not receive the VES until 2002 .
I have a buddy with a 01 edge XCsp700, and it has no valves.
I know that the 700's did not ahve VES in 2000.
and if the 700 would have had VES in 2000, I would have bought that instead of the 600. No complaints with my 00 600 VES as it has roasted all 700 twins it has been up against, and gets 12mpg easy.
I just wish finding a single pipe for my GenII 600 VES was easy to find. If I had bought the Limited Edition Early release Edge chassis for 00 instead of my gen 2, I could find a pipe easily. That edge chassis was $600 more than my gen2, which I got a super smokin deal on anyways. I could not justify spending 600 more for the new chassis at the time.
