Hey guys,
I have a friend working on a 97 sx and it has no spark. It ran when it was parked last year but it doesn't have any spark this year. When you pull it over there is no spark at the spark plug, but when you unplug the wire running to the coil it sparks. Any ideas? Could a wire that is rubbed through be causing this?

I have a 99 srx and Im going through the same thing right now. Parked it with tons of spark and it ran great. When to start it up a few days ago and nothing. do a search on stators or pick up coil and youll find a bunch of info on here. you do have a little bit different case here though. Curious, what do you mean you unplug the wire running to the coil and it sparks? the two wires that come from the harness to the coils(orange and black on my srx i believe) are the coil feed wires. I would think if you unplugged those wires youd have nothing at all.

he might mean the spark plug wire. might need new plug caps. the ohm resistance they are supposed to have is posted in here.

Yeah, I was referring to the coil feed wires. When they are plugged in and you pull the sled over there is no spark at the spark plugs, but when you unplug the feed wire after that it sparks at the connection.

I have never seen sparkplug caps all be bad at 1 time and cause a no spark, have seen them cause intermit. spark problems but not all 3 at 1 time. The coils are wires in series, so if one is bad they all will not spark, so I would check the coils seprately then if the wire coming to the coils will spark when disconnected from the coils, that means your good from pick up coil up thru the cdi and out to the coils

no spark

I have 2000 sx600r with 13000 miles on it . Around 8000 it started to lose power and spit and sputter. Dealer said stator I said sure< no way. well make the story short . I checked the wiring from c/case to all parts beyond, well I found the bullet connector (orange wire) to coil burnt inside. Then a year later (black wire to coil).I beleive my problem was caused by re jetting numouruos times due to triple pipes and the bullets lost tension .But this is a good thing to check even though this is not the case . Also when reconnecting a bullet con use dielectric grease to help prevent corrosion on terminals . also check ground junction near cdi box seems con is not real good there either. hope it helps
