What kind of helmets do your kids wear and how old are they? My little guy is 3-1/2 years old and I bought him one of those ITECH kids hockey helmets last year, but it seems he has grown a fair bit and it may not fit him this year. Is he too small for a regular helmet?

Open Face w/ full shield

When my guy was small I ran him around with a kids helmet from CTC. Too big and would droop forward and I would pull it back from time to time on the trail. But he is up front between my arms and legs so no worries. Oh yeah and the windsheld blocks most of the wind. But a full face shield also helps since there are cross breezes and if you encounter branches they hurt it you get one across the face.

Going around in circles around the yard with a toque but once you're going to leave put something on the head.( as small as you can find)

When my daughter was little we started her out in a bicycle helmet the first year. Not very warm, but she was only out for an hour or two max and I took it pretty easy. Around age four we put her in an open face with a bubble shield. The next year she went to full face. I shopped around and found the lightest one I could at the time. Now at 8 I set her up with whatever fits her melon best and is in a color she likes at time. I think this is the first year that she's going to wear the same helmet for two years. Kid grows like a weed.

Look at the fiberglass BMX full face helmets, they make them in a small size for young kids at 3-4 yrs old, and they are fiberglass instead of plastic, they are light enough also. I got a Bell one for my kid and a pair of goggles. My kid is now 8 and she finally can get a motorcycle helmet to fit correctly so I will upgrade her to that.

They do make "youth" helmets. I started my 3 and 5 year olds off with them. They're the MX style with goggles. Work and fit well with a baclava (sp?). If you have a good sled/moto dealer they should have them.

I have a 2 year old and I too am starting to look around for a helmet. Our dealer has the open face ones as mentioned with a bubble windshield ... they seem to fit well and not too over whelming (like a full face) for a beginner.

I wanted to go motox style, but she wasn't too hip on having her whole face so enclosed.

If you don't mind ordering one, Dennis Kirk has the open face helmets

Ebay, and Royal Distributing I know carry em...I've been looking aswell..but then again my daughter is still a tad shy to come for a spin with me...hopefully this year will be different...
I'm thinking if I buy one and keep it around the house she'll play with it and put it on...hopefullly she'll say..."Daddy take me for a ride on the Vroom, Vroom!!!"..hehehe..
A buddy of mine has his kids wearing bigger helmets at 3yrs..he called them them the "great Gazoos"

the thing about helmets are is they should be tryed on like a pair of jeans, not everyones helmets fit the same , like jeans, they dont all fit the same from brand to brand. My dealer didnt have a helmet in stock small enough so i got her the bmx helmet to start off with, because she could try it on and it fit, and it was a fiberglass one so I wasnt worreied about it not being safe enough. I would advise trying on the helmet before you just order thru the mail, lots of less hassle of returning them.

Yes they do make helmets for kids that small. My kids have had mx helmets since they were 2. And i actually found a couple lazer snowmobile helmets that fit them once they were 3-4 range.

My daughter uses a good ski helmet and googles The ski helmets are warmer
than bmx/bike helmets. They come in lots of sizes for kids and aren't as heavy as a regular helmet.
