The guy down the street added pipes to his Formula III and now wants to race. He is a beginer at tuning.
I am running Aaen triples, 8dn10 weights 49/45 helix green sec spring.
Reed spacers, 7.5 wheels and the larger poo wheels. I have 122 studs and I have no idea if he is studded.
He said there is no way a Yamaha will beat a Formula III

My first sled was a 97 F III...It was fast until it will only do 60 mph and only 6000 rpm......pufffff bad crank bearing or at least that is what the dealer say...I'll put my money on the yammy of course..he will drop a bearing for sure....Good luck and keep us posted.....

Go yammy Go...!!!!!!

Those Formula III's are pretty fast, but you'll win no prob. I raced my buddy who has one and I beat him when my Venom was bone stock. Waiting to try it again now that I've got some pipes.

I own a 97 formula III 600

and i for one know that a bone stock one will do 115 mph all day long

they are sneaky fast. If hes got pipes id watch out.

115mph....wow....are you kidding me. NO WAY can I hit that speed.
Hopefully I can hook up better. I am hoping that his clutching is off.

Those "purple screamers" where fast, get a good launch and hang on cause he wont be too far behind and may real you in on the big end.

BUT it is an older sled that may not be maintained well and not be 100% anymore, and as you said he is not a tuner. so I will put my money on you in 500'.

If he hooks up and is clutched well watch out. They can be quick out of the hole, but they have great top end for a 600 triple. They can even give 600 SRX's fits if they are well tuned. If you are well clutched and get good traction you can definately take him in a shorter run though!

Cause we are the benchmark! :yrules:

My friend has an SXR with PSI pipes, extra base gasket, thin head gasket, oversized wheels, heel clickers, multi-angle helix, and reed spacers. Sucker is really fast. Last year against my stock Viper is was back and forth with the SXR having the advantage against my trail setup. Never got to test it against my lake setup as he blew the HC out of it during the race, lol. Never got a chance to radar it either, but I know it would have done 114MPH easy.

Take a layer out of that head gasket and run super in it. Also if it's a long race (2000' +) loosen the secondary spring 10* until it bog off the line (or sucks the belt), then go back up 10*. It will be close though.

I already have 1 layer of head gasket removed. I will need to fine tune when I take the SXR out. I need to fine tune RPM since we had no snow last year for me to tinker.
I am running at a 60 wrap on the secondary and I remember with that setting I was under reving.

Arctic Cat's are fast but are very unreliable, they might run well one day and carp out the next. A Yamaha runs very consistant at all times. Ski Doo runs well also but in the older years were very heavy. Older Doo's are good in straight line drags or radar runs but were awfull on the trail. I like to see drags with a few jumps in place. Straight line drags are very boring in my opinion.

here is a question....why do doo guys and cats always want to race with Yamy's

For the hell of it.
All sled makes like to race against other sleds. There really is nothing else to it.

What year F3 is it? If it is a 98+ it is basically a mach 1 with a single pipe, if it is a 700, If it is a 600 it already had triple pipes.

I would seriously watch out. I know we are on a yamaha site, but you have to keep in real.
Also, those triple case reed doos were pretty reliable.

My uncle tried to start that exact thing a few years ago in Owosso, but unfortunately it did not take off like he thought it would. He called it drag-cross. I don't know if his website is still up for it but it was www.drag-cross.com. As far as a Formula III, yea hold on for the ride. My buddy has a 98 700 with dynoport triple pipes, and a dynoport clutch kit tuned for the pipes, and that thing is fast as all hell. His only problen is trying to hook up. He really needs a 1.25-1.5" ripsaw, and when he gets that I can't even imagine. You said he's not a tuner so you may take him cause he's a beginner and might not be tuned right. If he's yanking your chain and is tuned properly and can ride I hate to say it but he'll get ya, prolly within 100' or so.
