So I had the sleds out last night and I notice this horrible noise in the rear of my srx when under full power. Mostly 30mph cruise to WOT....Sounds like the track rubbing or hitting....no visible marks or damage.
-only happens when under full throttle and skis in the air at least 1 ft.
-has 1.25 ripsaw with front protectors off
-felt in the back end of the skid.....and I just went thru it so it is OK
-has adjustable transfer rods
ANY IDEAS????????????????????

whats your track tension set at?? only reason I ask is because you said that it only happens under WOT and thats when the most loads on the track out of the hole... only an idea.....

Ya know that is a good point but it seems ok.....hangs about 3/4 of an inch down on a stand. If I lean forward so the thing keeps the skis down it is ok.....I always thought it was just the flap hitting but it feels like something is binding.....is it possible it transfer too much and the suspension is hitting the rear wheels???? No marks in them.

You may have a cracked arm, or the track is ratcheting. As odd as it sounds, how is the belt? Can you swap belts and test?

I find I have to keep the ripsaw a little tighter than the old stock track.
I don't have any weird noises that you speak of.

Hard accel, I'm fat 230.....w-arm is ok. I feel it in my butt, can a loose track cause the rear end to do odd things??? If so that is it. Last year it did this too, I remember adjusting the rods so it wouldn't pull the skis so hard and all was good, could it be the flap hitting the ground so hard and scraping snow into the track and tunnel???????

I am no tech. by any means but it sounds alot like my sled just a couple of weeks ago. It is almost like a hard crack when you snap the throttle. I tried tightening the track just a small amount and the noise was completely gone. I am assuming that your track is also ratcheting.

I had this problem before. A small layer of belt was slapping around and I swore it was coming from my skid.

Well there you have it... check your belt for wear and tighten your track to eliminate the possibility of ratcheting. I had ratcheting issues last weekend at you can definitely tell when its happening. Does it feel like your sled looses power when this noise occurs?

If you have tunnel protectors the track will lob up & hit them, but more so at top speed as the track is at its peak stretch...
Look at your hifax at the end, are they tapered...if not the hifax has a tendency to catch as the track rounds the rear axle...
look at the front shock, top of the shock, if its polished or signs of track rub...then your running the track to loose...
why do you want so much ski lift...the ideal set up is to only raise the weight off the ski on launch & not that hi...your wasting energy in two directions!

It does have tunnel protectors.....no marks on them. I guess I should adjust me ski lift and tighten the track.....what spec should I use being a 1.25 ripsaw??? I guess I will learn to stop lifting her up at 50 plus, I'll miss that!

Mine free hangs about 1/2 in. Can't confirm but I think it was close to that.
^^^ That was my guess, slides are cut too long and catching.theblues said:Look at your hifax at the end, are they tapered...if not the hifax has a tendency to catch as the track rounds the rear axle...

Might also want to check the bearing on the speedo side or chaincase side. I have seen bearings so far gone that the axel is just grinding it's way through the chassis and then the drive cogs start hitting the W-arm under load. Very rare but it does happen.

slides are oem, cut to size from Yamaha with a taper.
Check chain tension, pull the chain cover off & have a peak at things...I have seen that cause some weird noises, you will see debris if its from there...you basically have to eliminate the usual stuff, like all the things mentioned above...have you confirmed that all bearings spin freely and without any noise by hand?..list all the thing we said here & state what you found and that way we can try & put you in the right direction...

Thanks guys for the help. I'm sure I'll get her figured out now! Chaincase was just apart cleaned and lubed.....and adjusted. Checking out to make sure my reverse install went ok! IT DID! Best upgrade ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

when the track hits the protectors it hits it in the front area, not the the rear, so the only way you can see if you have marks on them is a mirror on a stick, looking up between the driveshaft and the track/front cooler, when you give it the gas, if the track is too loose the drivers pull the track from the inside front and bottom, the skidframe bows down and this pulls the track from the drive cogs and puts a running ripple in the track, this goes around and then trnasfers to the top and the track balloons and it will bow out above the drivers and rub right at the front, also hard braking will also cause the track to hit up there towards front of tunnel.
basicly your track is most likely just too loose!

This site is great!!!!! Track was a little loose (ok a lot) and I adjusted my transfer rods....still pulls 'em up nice!!! Noise is gone! I never tried the oem transfers but I think with the ripsaw she will always pull the front end up. God I love that!!!!!!
