1) The on/off valve that controls whether or not coolant goes through the carbs was turned off. Should it be?

2) One of my jets was plugged. I put on about 40 miles prior to knowing this. No WOT, no prolonged high speeds over these 40 miles, just average driving. Could I have damaged a piston?

Thanks.

1. You should be fine to leave the carb heaters off until it gets down below around -5*F or cooler, then I would turn them on to be on the safe side. I've always ran with mine on, but after reading several posts on this site I'm going to start following the above advice.

2. A main jet was plugged but you weren't running it real hard, you probably got lucky. The way you described how you rode, you should have been mostly on the needles. Pull the spark plug on the cylinder that had the plugged jet and inspect it closely. First off, is it white or brown? If it's brown, you should be ok as that shows adequate jetting. If it's white, then I would look closely for metal flakes or a silvery appearance.

My cousin took my uncle's sled out a few years ago, first ride of the season, without cleaning the carbs. He noticed that when he mashed the throttle there was a slight lean bog. He rode it all day, but stayed away from running it past 3/4 throttle. I thought he was crazy to run it at all, but anyway it ended up having a plugged jet. That sled has over 5K on it now (cousin bought it) and still runs strong, its pulls my viper, more mods needed, lol.

If I remember correctly I think they were brown. Jeremy if you see this maybe you can chime in.
