I am very new to yamahas. I picked up a srx 01 700. This sled has hauck growlers. Last night riding in -10f temps, it would pull to 9000 rpms. Is this normal or should it be less. Clutching is stock as far as I can tell.

I am also 6'5 trying to ride this thing. Anyway the viper or sxr handlebars will fit on this thing. I have sat on a 600 sxr and it feels much better to me with the added height. Thanks for the insight....

Anything past 8400-8500rpms your losing power, those numbers are what your want your sled to run at on top end. Anytime I buy a used sled, the first thing I do is go threw the clutchs to see what the previous owner had going on. Plus is doesnt hurt to clean em while you have them apart.

On to the bars, Im 6'2 and dont plan on standing very much on my SRX so the stock bars and risers are fine for me. Since your a few inches taller than me, Id say youd be good with a Powermadd 2in riser IF your sitting more than standing. My Viper on the other hand has close to 5in of rise cause thats my ditch-banging/off trail sled and to have that much rise you have to extend b-cable, t-cable, o-cable and possibly wires too. Contact Rich at Rich Motorsports if you need a riser, hes a vendor of the site and is a great guy to deal with.

PS toss that Hauck if your more worried about speed than sound.

The stock clutching should not be off that much unless you have a worn old belt. try a new belt. Break it in easy for 10-20 miles. Then pin it & see what rpm,s are.

I put a new belt on her after blowing a used worn out belt. Seems to ride about a 1/8 above the secondary. Is this right? Not sure why else. Maybe I should check the wrap. I think the spring is in the 6 position on the outside numbers.....

You need to get in those clutches and see what you have going on. Turk is right, there is no way the stock clutching should allow it to rev that high. If you take the secondary apart see what number the spring is on on the other end (in the sheave). See what color code is on the secondary spring. In the primary, see what color code spring is in there and see what weights are in there. The rivets that are in the weights are also important. You shoulve have 8DN-20 weights in the primary along with a Yellow-White-Yellow primary spring. Verify those components. Are there any black marks on the clutch sheaves at all that would indicate belt slippage?
