Hey all, i just started up my 2002 SXR 600 for this season and it has been sitting all summer. It started kind of hard but it will run. The problem is that after a little while without the choke it simply bogs down and dies if i don't re choke it. I put in 5 gallons or so of premium gas but so far I haven't noticed much of a difference. What do you think? Carbs need to be cleaned, or give that new gas a chance to work? Any help is appreciated!

get into your carbs and start cleaning.
Your pilots are plugged up and they control your idle circuit. When you flip the choke back on, it will run better because you are getting fuel to the motor where you cant do that in the idle circuit because the pilots are plugged.
Clean your carbs... Easy to do

Ditto . . . Pilot jets are likely clogged.

one cheap mod is pealing the head gasket. Remove the middle layer and put the other two layers back in using a gasket spray. Then add reed spacers or do the notch as in the tech page. Then you can do a little clutching and all this will have cost you about $150.00. You will notice a big difference with these little mods.
