I got out today and put 70 miles on my Viper. I was not happy with the 53/43 and green spring setup last year, so I went with Hauck's Viper setup this year. Now, we're talking! Being from the Chicago area, I don't have a lot of time to tune, so I probably could have dialed in the other setup, but I figured that Hauck had done the work for me. His SRX 600 setup was EXACTLY what I wanted on my last sled, so I bought his Viper kit. Corner to corner it is awesome, and the backshift is smooth and fast. I haven't got it up to top end yet, but it seems to be running right in the power band, and it goes like a bat out of hell. I'm really not too concerned about top end, I wanted a good trail kit anyway. Also, at the 70 mile mark, I still had a little less than half a tank. Last year, my fuel mileage was awful. So, if you want a nice kit that is easy to install (no weight or rivet change), I'd really recommend this setup.

I am just curious, have you ridden the sled and then stopped to have a feel on how hot the clutchs are? Can you hold your hand on the primary? secondary? if so how many secs before you say ouch? By the looks of the fuel mileage, your slippin the belt alot in my opinion if by your post you say you havnt been running it wide open yet.

I kept meaning to check the clutches, but riding was too fun to stop! I will check next time I'm out. Judging by the tach, I'd say there was some slipping going on, but only for a short blip. My belt is a little worn, too. Do you think that mileage is low? I'd be happy to get somewhere near 12 mpg. I think I was getting 10 last year.mrviper700 said:I am just curious, have you ridden the sled and then stopped to have a feel on how hot the clutchs are? my viper last year when it was stock, would only get like 10mpg, while my buddies viper w/hauck clutch kit #4, and pipes would get like 12-13mpg. WTH?

They say the over rev on the Vipers kills your mileage. You need to bring the rpms down.
Thanks, Mr Viper. I'll do some research. My riding partner has hip problems, rolled his sled yesterday, and is taking a break. I have the worst cold in my life. All this, and tons of snow all over northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. It's killling me.
