Does anyone have an electronic version of the wiring schematic for a 98 srx. I am having spark problems, I have good spark on the center cylinder, and no spark on the pto and mag. I need the schematic so I know what wires to probe to start checking the p/u coil.

on the 98's the coils are all fired at the same time from the same two wires {waste spark system] if you have spark on one your problem is probally somthing with the wires that connect the coils together.

I unplugged the two wires running to the coils and put an ohm meter on the wire going into the first coil and the wire coming out of the third coil and there wasn't any resistance, all zeros on the meter. Does this mean that the coils and wires connecting them are all ok or can there still be a problem there. I am assuming the center cylinder has fire because it is plugs directly into one of the feed wires.

You should have .36-.48 ohms when checking each coil individually using the 2 input connections.
You should have 5.4-7.4k ohms when checking from the plug wire to an input connection. (without plug cap)
Spark plug cap alone testing from one side to the other should be 5k ohms.

I wonder if my meter is bad, I thought it should have some resistance going through all of the coils, I will try to find another meter and check each one individually.

The plug caps just screws off the end of the wire. After checking them out you can trim off about 1/4" of the wire and screw them back on.

I tried a different meter. From the plug wire to an input wire on the coil I had around 6.2. On the plug wire ends I had around 5.2 on all of them. When I put the leads on both wires of each coil it read zeros for all three coils.

if you have spark to one plug and not the others then the pick up coil and the cdi are working as all the power comes to the coils via the small orange wire, what you need to do is unplug the series of wires on the coils and test each seperate coil, the orange and the black, those are the specs listed here for you, not the all 3 coils together with checking the leads.

You mean touch one lead to the wire at the top of the coil and one lead to the wire at the bottom of the coil. That is what I did and I came up with all zeros for each coil. I know the meter is working because when I tested from the coil wire to the end of the spark plug wire I came up with 6.2 which was in the range that was provided above.

no, you check the 1 lead on the orange wire and the other lead in the end of the sparkplug wire, not the small black ground wire.

I should reword this, you check the primary resistance in the 2 small wires, orange and black on each seprate coil, unhooked from coil harness, then you check the secondary resistance thru the orange wire and the sparkplug lead with out the boot on it.
your first reading should be 0.38-0.46 ohms
your second reading should be 5.8-7.0 ohms

my coils have a all black and a black and white wire on them. The only orange wire I have is coming out of the wiring harness. I came up around 6.2 on all of the coils, going from the wire on the coil to the spark plug wire with the boot off. when going from wire to wire on each coil I came up with a .7 or .8 on all three. I will go check again to confirm this.

did you unbolt the coils from the metal bracket? sometimes I have seen them all rusted there and not getting a good ground.

no i didn't unbolt the coils. I tested each coil and got .3 .4 and .3 so that should be in check with what was up above. my meter is has an automatic scale and only went to one decimal place for some reason. Is it possible that it is producing weak spark and the center has fire because it feeds through there first and doesn't have enough juice to fire the other two. I will go unbolt the coils and try to clean up the mount plates

sounds like the caps.

Well I took the bracket and all of the coils off the sled and laid it on the work bench and took it completely apart and wire brushed all of the points were metal was in contact with metal. I put it back together and had spark, so I guess it was getting a bad ground.
