A buddy of mine has a set of take off short travel Ohlin front shocks from a 1997 600SX. He wants to know if I want to buy them, but does not know what to ask for them. I talked with my friend that rebuilds shocks. He said for about $150, he can long travel and revalve them. I would then use them on my Viper front suspension. Does anyone have any idea what they are worth? Just curious.......trying to get a benchmark starting point. Originally I was going to swap my track out for maybe a 1.375" in lue of my 1.25" Predator. He wanted my old track even up. My Predator has 4000 miles on it, has a few worn down lugs but not bad for it's age. He wants to put something like that on the 1997 SX.....(daughter's sled).
thanks!!
FYI......he is long traveling the SX600 with four Viper shocks. That's why the Ohlins are coming off.

No one has an idea of their value??
they fetch around 250-350 for a pair on evil bay, the sx ones should have the clicker dials where as the srx ones used the key, there is a slight amount differance in the springs for the weight differance between a sx and a srx.
you might check the top shock eyelets are the same, the viper is a differnt top then the sx if memery serves me right???

The viper and sx have the same uppper mount, but the srx is different than both. The srx is an eyelet, the viper and sx are clevis.
ya, I dont remember 3 were this way, 2 that way...
blah,blahblah....LOL!!!!
I remember I once bought some brackets off a sx700 to use srx front shocks on a viper from betheviper, so I couldnt remember, glad Mike knows.....![Rofl  ](https://totallyamaha.net/images/smilies/rofl.gif)

just curious but when you go to ronnies.com and check out the micro. it shows the sx shocks, both 600 and 700 have eyelets like a srx does and the brackets I bought from Scott to put on my viper, then I ran srx shocks, as the viper had differnt tops?? am I missing something, Im old and I forget things from the past....LOL
what am I missing?
what am I missing?

lol it would probably help if I put down the drugs as well. It was actually the 2000 and up SX's (SXR name change) that were the clevis upper mounts. The early SX's (97-99) were the eyelet style like the srx. All vipers were the clevis uppers. All srxs were the eyelet uppers. Hopefully that'll clear this up for good now haha.

Thanks guys.........mrviper700, the shocks actually belong to Mike M., the one that owns the Viper 780BB that you worked on. He has three Yammies....the 780 Viper, a RX-1 and a '97 SX600.
you could either have the top mounts changed when you long travel them or use the sx brackets on your viper and they will bolt right on then. viper uses a clevis top mount and the sx has the eyelet top mount like a srx.
What do you mean by "long traveling" them? I bought a pair of 5/8" shock rod extensions from Advant-edge Motorsports. Removed the stock shock rod eye-let and threaded these on. The Ohlins shock body allowed for an extra 5/8" of travel. This gave me about 1" of extra ski travel when mounted. The only down-side I have found of this modification is you are now maxxed out on the shock spring preload threads on the shock body and without fabricating a spacer ring you can't get a lot of spring pre-load.
Yes, these shocks have been fetching upwards of $300/pair on e-bay. I've been watching for a second set to "short travel" them and put on my Nightster.

I have a friend in St.Paul that owns a shop that rebuilds shocks, works on all brands of sleds, wheelers and bikes. From what I understand ,he puts a longer extension in them.

tell your bud to put em on ebay.
I wouldn't stick em on a viper unless your racing

As shock extensions may help with your height because you put Viper shocks on the rear of your sled and you need to regain proper ski pressure/balance, they really don't long "travel" anything much, as Vmax said they bodies are too short as well are the springs. All you are doing is making them longer intially, stroke doesn't change much.
