HP Specs for 96 & 97 Vmax600
Any idea what the horsepower rating is for the 96 vs 97 Vmax XT600? Were there any changes to the engine between these two years?

Yes, there were changes to the motor. I know the 97 600 had a different porting of the cylinder (more effective). The crankcase was different due to the different motor mounts.
I have 97 cylinders on my 96 lower end.
Can't help you out on the HP. I know I've heard the neighborhood of 85-90 hp thrown out for the 96 with a thin head gasket.
