Hey guys.
My friend just bought a very nice 04 Viper with the Ohlins!!
It has NO studs in it. It appears to be a 1.25" Ripsaw track on it.
What do I need to know about studding a VIPER??
Thanks

hey 87 nice to see ya on TY... if its the same as a SRX which i believe it is your gonna need 8 tooth drivers with that combo, the studs with the 1.25" are gonna be too long for the 9 tooths and clearance....
Edit: Double check it has front and rear exchanger protectors, they are standard on SRX but i dunno about the viper

Can we shave a 1/4" off the track and then install 1.115" (or whatever that length is?)??
This is a real drag!! I know back in 2003-04, you guys musta already discussed how silly this is that a modern day sled can't be studded, but this is ridiculous!!!

yeah if you shave 1/4" then run 1.175s it should work thats what im just installing on my sled right now, 1" hacksaw with 192 1.175" studs
Anyone wanna chime in to make sure what im saying applies to the viper too?, im pretty sure the srx and the viper are similar drives and clearance but not 100%

Thanks Roost 'Er, I have told my friend how great his sled is, and we rode all day yesterday, it ran great for him. Now I am gonna have to break the bad news to him!! LOL!!
I'm the friend 87gtnos is talking about. So before I start this venture. I do not have tunnel protector or heat exchanger guards. So if I slice off a 1/4 inch and add a shorter stud I should be alright then. Just need confirmation before I start slicing. I need to stud but would rather not have to change over to 8 tooth drivers and such. Anybody wanna confirm for me. Thanks
You have to have tunnel and heat exchange protectors know matter what,if you are going to stud!
Shaving 1/4" only allows you to stud with out having to change the driver to a 8 tooth.
The problem is , that there is not enough room for a 1 1/4" track and tunnel protectors.

I have the same sled, Viper S, and I have studded mine without changing the drivers. But its a risk, and if you dont mind shaving the track it would be the safest way to do it.

you might be better off just trying to find a nice used 1 inch track thats already studed. i have a track and the front heat exchanger protectors if you are interested.
Thanks guys...I may look into adding the guards and just shaving the track. This sled is a beauty but, would be even sweeter with a little more control on the slippery stuff. ![Letitsnow :letitsnow :letitsnow](https://totallyamaha.net/images/smilies/letitsnow.gif)

Shave the track 1/4 inch , run 1.250 studs , overall 1.5 in lenght . You'll have to install rear protectors and tunnel protectors .
Trust me , unless you like the sound of carbide tip VS aluminum !
I havent clipped the lugs on mine yet , havent noticed any rubbing on the tunnel protectors at all .
Run the track kinda snug and enjoy the traction , huge difference !
Oh youll need to step up the lenght of your carbides up front too , mine wags the dog a bit, at least while the skiis are touching .![Letitsnow :letitsnow :letitsnow](https://totallyamaha.net/images/smilies/letitsnow.gif)
