Hi all,
Just a little note to say that the Excel V, which hasn't run since 1998, is now running great. The mouse nest that nearly totalled the engine only destroyed two pistons and one bearing. The rest I was able to salvage.

We got a little under seven inches of snow here in mid-Michigan, so I pulled it out of the garage, turned the key, and it instantly came to life. Then, for the next hour, we did lap after lap around the soccer field, and saw no trouble with the engine at all. There's a little slop in the right ski to sort out, but overall, it runs faster than I have guts. The kids loved it, and I sure do like electric start! It's an instant starter, and after twenty miles of odometer (more like ten, I think) the plugs show a nice, dry tan color. The oil injection seems to be running okay as well: Nothing was overly smoky or oily, and you could smell it in the exhaust, especially when starting from a stop.

I'm wondering though: How can you tell if the injection system is providing enough oil, without ruining the engine? Is there a method?

I have a 79 Excel V, awesome sled, very reliable and tons of fun.

Here is the spec for the SRV, works well on my Excel V: 0.98 inch ± 0.04 inch

1- The measurement is taken from the top of the adjuster to the end of the cable housing after the throttle cable and idle have been properly adjusted with the carb in the idle position.

2- Just pull the oil cable out of the adjuster (carb in idle position) and adjust gap between cable end and adjuster to the specified distance.

3- larger gap = less oil, smaller gap = more oil.
I always set mine at about 7/8" (more oil than specified) just to be safe.
