Trying to align the track on my 03 viper, it's shifted to the left when looking from the rear of the track. Which adjuster do I turn and in or out any help would be great. We have a ton of snow here, it's going to be a great year.

You always tighten the side opposite of the way you want the track to go. So if the track is shifted too far to the left, tighten the left side and the added tension will "push" the track more to the right. Make sure you don't get too tight though. Loosening a side will also tend to "pull" the track to that side because of the decreased tension. The track wants to move away from the side under higher tension. Does that make sense?

Also, make sure to loosen the 19mm nut on the rear axle before adjusting the track, and tighten it back up after. Tightening the axle locks its position down by pinching the slide rails.

I just read this on Hartman's site the other day...

"Make sure snowmobile is safely supported and everything is clear while track is in motion.
Align track so that hifax run in center of track clips TIP: With YAMAHA adjusters the adjuster you tighten
is the direction track will move towards. Do not make track too tight. 1” hang down in center.
Don’t forget to adjust front limmiting straps."

Not to start an argument or anything here but that is absolutely NOT TRUE for adjusting yamaha tracks. The adjuster you tighten will push the track AWAY from that adjuster. LOOSENING an adjuster will bring the track towards that adjuster.

Check the yamaha spec in the manual if you are unsure how tight to go. It is a certain deflection at 22lbs pull measured with a fish scale. You can go looser than the spec, but don't go tighter. If you go tighter than spec you are just asking to burn out your slides fast, put excess load on bearings, and increase your rolling resistance. I dont run my tracks that tight, just tight enough that they don't ratchet and then a turn or two more on the adjusters.

Thanks everyone, think I got it right. I'll be hitting the trails tommorow they might not be groomed but it will be fun to play in all the snow for a while.
