Hey guys,

I have a 89 phazer. I want to add a dg, or aaen pipe. There is a dg i have my eye on. But I also want to have the carbs fro ma 95 vamx 500 on to make sure of no melt downs. So anyone that has a modded phazer please list your mods. And what jetting do you gys have with the vmax carbs? I know it wont be the same as mine but it'll give me a base point. Also what clutching do you guys have.

thanks, Nik

my 89 had a aaen pipe boison reeds on size up from stock main floats set at 11mm front spring silver silver from a 1974 gpx 433 8vo weights rear clutch sey at c2 dropped one tooth on top gear it was a great sled had it 3 years no problems

have a PSI 38 MM carbs with 155 mains stock pilots, boyesen reeds, red pink primary spring, 84M weights and stock secondary for now.....Haven't try it yet....I hope it rocks...Nick

Nick,

that looks like a nice setup. Let me know how everything goes, ok?

What did you have for a top speed on that 89 tedgoesfast?

Thanks, Nik

Keep them coming,

I tried a DG single pipe on my 488 fan indy trail.
On the dyno the stock pipe beat it everywhere except wayyyy up top. even when jetted properly for the dg, it just did not perform any better than the stocker.

sure the DG weighed less, and sounded nice, but it was useless for practical reasons, so i sold the dg, and put a stock one on again.

so, while it was not a phazer, it was about as close to a phazer 485 as you can get.

stick with aaen or psi, or anyone else. DG sux from my experience.

84 Phazer, aaen pipe, Cold air kit, .30 over sized cyl. and a shaved head. I'm not sure about clutching because I bought it like this not knowing any of the mods except for the pipe and the cold air, because the previous owner didn't know.

But I do know it rips! the pipe has a sweet sound and adds a lot of power but is pretty loud for a long ride.

Oh, and it has stock carbs with 160 mains.

:jack: what does the size of the float valve change? This sled has 1.5's

I have a 89 phazer (fist sled ). RPC pipe, sx pistons , reeds, stock carbs with holes drilled in them, 147.5 mains 110 pilots stock airbox .Comet 108exp purple spring do'nt remember wieghts, exciter secondary pink spring . bender wide kit (the best thing you can do to a phazer ). A pipe makes a big diffrence on a phazer .

Put an AAEN single "can" pipe on it, Boysean 2 stage reeds, 145 mains, run it at 7500rpms, it will be a blast, done lots of them this way. You can get into the motor if you want but it's not really worth it, leave the stock carbs on it unless you REALLY know what you're doing with carbs.

at calbue lake in maine i raced it in a rader run it went 96 mph in a thousand feet i got bet by a 1976 srx that went 98 i took second

I have an '87 Phazer, Psi pipe, minor porting, boyeson reeds, cold air, Opened up air box.
I have v-max 600 carbs waiting to go on. I also have a comet 108 exp but, need the main bolt.
Custom paint, Fishbones, Launch pads, TY sticker!

Does anybody run pod filters and rejet their sled or is this somethign not to do? I know it works great on my motorcycle.

Also, if I put a pipe on the phazer, do I have to clutch it to run higher rpm, or is an aftermarket pipe still better than stock without clutching. I just want a cheap reliable sled and I dont want to fool around with it too much this winter, but of course I want to mod it.

Do not run pod filters on the stock carbs !! If you plan to mod it with just a pipe & Reeds: jet up to 145.0 mains, 100 pilots and have the carbs drilled to richen up the midrange circut and use the stock air box. If you really want to run pod filters, install a set of flatslides from a v-max 500.

Can you give the specifics on drilling the carbs?

I got a Phazer with Aenn pipe,PSI ported, and flatsides.I have a bad bog coming out of the hole??Ideling it just dosen't sound right,it sounds lazy, like possible flooding? When you hammer it from a stop it falls flat on its face, for first 60 feet or so,then its hold on time!!! What should I be looking at now??

Does anybody else have any specific info on carb drilling. I pmed yamaha1 when this thread was around and no response. Do you just drill the hole in the primary jet through the other side of the needle or is there more to it?
