I melted a piston. They took off the 1 jug said the cylinder is salvageable. They said they wanna look at my crank. I said ok. They said that they might wanna overhaul my whole motor with out looking at the crank. I said I thought I just needed a piston. Cant ya just fix that and figure out why it leaned it self out? They said no. We might have to take the crank out MIC it and get it balanced and I will need all new seals and everything. Gonna cost around $1500-2000 if everything goes good. Is this too much. Should I just part out my sled and be done with it. I can afford this. But I can also afford a new sled if its gonna be that much.
Is it worth this money to get a 99 srx fixed that needs a new track.
If I get this done will my motor ever blow up again in the life on my sled?

Sounds like they might be trying to take you for a ride if it is a melted piston more than likely it ran lean for some reason I can't see the crank having anything to do with it although it could be a crank seal though or dirty carbs. I would check the carbs first and see if the main jet may be blocked off. There is a great article on the home page tech section under engine it is called Piston diagnostics this may help you find out what happened by looking at the piston.
Ugh thats what a few other people told me. I dunno what to do. should i just go get a box of parts and come home?

If they just took off one jug there should not be many parts. If it was a dirty carb and the cylinder is good all you need is a piston, gaskets and the cylinder deglazed. Alot cheaper than they quoted around $300 i'm guessing probally less
May need a bore job? Im not sure. they diddint tell me many details on the phone. Can I run 1 oversize piston?

No as far as I know it is a nickel cylinder so can't be bored but you can send your cylinder to be fixed or swapped for a new one usually takes one week or so at adrienne bernard they can answer any questions you may have. I dealt with them before my buddy actually lost the engine in his seadoo crank let go and there was pieces everywhere he called them up the guy on the phone said to box it up they will fix anything he thought the engine was destroyed came back a few weeks later good as new.http://www.cvtech-aab.com/contenu/index_ang.cfm

What ever the price is on Ronnies site just double it for sure to get you close to CDN prices. Try and find a guy that does it on the side. Save a lot on labor but nothing on parts unless you go with after market plus you can get a reman crank for a lot less than what Yamaha will want..
