Bender piped 04 Viper 136 ripsaw not studded, H/C's with 4.2 heel, 4.5 tip, center empty, 15mm rollers, red primary, green secondary at 70 with 48/40 advantedge helix. It pulls hard but only gets to 8500-8600 rpm. I would like to see 9000 rpm. I have waight in the tip for top end but i can only get 96mph on the speedo in 1/4 mile. I raced a stock 04 Viper from 30 mph and we were even. If i take waight from the tip and move it to the center will top speed suffer? Maybe a more shallow finish angle helix? I just figured i'd ask before i start moving things around.

I think you are going to have to do both (drop tip weight & shallower helix). To get SNOWs sxr to 9000 we had to run the middle & tip empty and that was with a 45/39 helix. Yes different motor, but close in HP with his mods.

I'm no expert though, I'm sure one will chime in.
TTT for ya.

why would you want 9000 rpm when your pipes make the power at 8700rpm?

what gearing are you running?

how much do you weigh?

answer these and we can go from there.

I thaught piped vipers ran at 9000 rpm. Gearing is stock, i'm 210lbs. If it should be 8700 i'm not far off then. I should walk all over the stock viper. What am i doing wrong?

the set up doesnt look bad on paper, however, I cant see or hear how the sled runs, I need you to go out and make a few passes with it and report what the tach does, find a field or somewhere you wont hit anything and whack the gas, what does the tach do?, does it climb smoothly up to peak or does it drop rpm and then slowly gain it back? need some information to see where your problem is.

I am assuming the jetting and all is already done and good?

Its not that "piped vipers" run at a certain rpm. Every pipe runs at a different rpm based on where they are tuned for max power (best scavenging and wave pulses at a given rpm are changed by pipe dimensions.)

SLP's run at 8900, Aaen's run at 9100 (I think), but Bender's run at 8700 as MrViper said. I never looked at what brand you were running, lol.

Jetting is probably a bit fat. Mod air box with 3 1.5" holes, 55 pilots 170 mains for -15f temps at sea level, carbs vented to air box. The sled runs great and pulls right to 8500. I didn't pay close attention to the rpm's when i hit the throttle. I think it hits 7500 and climbs to 8500 pretty quick and stay's there. No drop in rpm at all, i can't even feel it shift, smooth power all the way. I'll have to wait for the weekend for another test. Have you got suggestions as to what i can try, or will you need more information?

neither of those would be any benefit.

50/36,50/40, 50/38, 48/38,51/37 all will work good with what you have there, be slight changes to weight placement but any of these helix's can work.

since you dont have any other helix to work with try removing the tip weight and place it in the middle hole, run a empty tip and then back off the secondary spring 10 degrees.
