Picked up a couple of Snoscoots for the kids. Trying to get them running steady.

First, I am a self tought garage tinkerer and am learning about engine details as I go.

Both sleds run, but not steady. I cleaned both carbs.

Sled #1: sled needs a shot of starter fluid through the airbox to get it fired. It will run, but will not hold an idle. Looking at the fuel pump, it looks like it is not drawing. Swaped pumps and still no movement. I've driven the sled and it has a low end bog then all of a sudden rips open at mid throttle and nearly flips over ;)! . Certianly not kid friendly.

Sled #2: sled will start and revs high as though throttle is wide open (track spinning). Then it will drop, idle and rev up to full throttle again. I hit brake and flip choke down and it stalls.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

let me ask you this, when you cleaned the carbs did you squirt the carb cleaner thru the idle circuit and the pilot jet circuit and it came out in the throat of the carb? or just wash the jets?

I pretty much cleaned everything and made certian of no clogs. I'm going to completely drain the gas tomorrow and re-clean the carbs again.

#1 Clean the carbs. If you have a blow gun, blow some air thru everything to be sure that nothing is plugged.
#2 The high rev could be caused by an air leak somewhere.

Make sure that small black rubber plug is in place in the carb too. You may even need to run a small wire through the circuts to get it perfect.

I would replace the filters in both gas tanks too.

OK. Drained gas in both. added fresh stuff. Removed and cleaned both carbs.

Scoot #1: Turned over and over and over, then flooded BAD! carb completely saturated with gas to the pont of overflowing back into airbox. atleast it's getting gas. :bump:

Scoot #2: getting close. Choked it and she's fires up. Runs fine with choke on. As soon as I release choke, It winds up as though I'm giving it full throttle, track spinning like mad. If I flick the choke back up, she settles down and handles like it should without choke. :o| wtf!!

Scoot #2 sounds lean? Anyone know what the stock carb settings were for these machines? Is there any slack in your throttle cable?

Scoot #1 sounds like the float needles and seats are shot.
