im sure lots of people have but whats it like? one pass across the field the motor runs fine and then after making the turn and heading back i feels like maybe i blew the high rpm range out of the cdi or something... i guess i could describe it as a VERY FAST miss of sorts but only at W.O.T... and it progressivly getting worse?? what the heck could that be??

Cdi

I think it is very possible that your cdi is going.
I currently have 4 cdi boxes that all have little quarks.
One of which will not spark between, "let's say" 100 and 200 rpm.
When you pull the starter with the plugs out, it will spark about 3 times then it will not spark and as the crank slows it will spark again. If you can spin the engine past 200 rpm it will spark and run fine.
My other 3 cdi boxes all seem to have a moisture problem. When left in the garage over night they will not spark. Take them in the house and put them in front of the heater vent for a while and they will spark.

I would first check all your connections on the cdi box and the stator plug and make sure they are CLEAN and Tight.

Hope this helps......................jipcee

I had this same exact problem before. The wires near the CDI were worn through. Check all your wires.

yeah im kinda actually hoping it is the cdi because even tho they are about the hardest part to swap out at least i would know the problem.... i was wondering on the way to work today, if maybe i have a partially blocked off main jet... then agian im thinking it probably would just run lean and burn down if that was the case... im going to let everything dry out and cool down and try it again in a few days before i do anything... i guess then it is possible to "blow up" only a certain rpm range?

do you think i might have blown the cdi tony? it weird if it would have started acting like this after a reclutched then i might blame clutching for the weirdness but it happened all in the sudden in the middle of a "test session".... it still runs good in midrange its just at 3/4 or more throttle where it falls on its face

IT AIN,T THE CDI. MIGHT HAVE A COIL ON STATOR ACTING UP. LOOK FOR A PIECE OF MIND , PLUG ANOTHER CDI IN AND TRY IT, BUT I DOUBT IT. EVERYBODY HAS THEIR OWN CDI THORIES, ALL I HAVE SEEN BAD ARE STONE DEAD. WHAT I WOULD SUGGEST TYLER IS TRACK ALL YOUR WIRING OFF THE CDI RIGHT INTO THE MOTOR. ANOTHER WORDS RIGHT TO YOUR STATOR. YOU MIGHT GET LUCKY AND FIND A BAD WIRE. I HAD THAT HAPPEN TO ME ON A 81 SRX. TRYED THREE DEFFERENT BOX,s. IT ENDED UP BEING BARE WIRE EXPOSED TO CASE CAUSE ARCH OR SHORT. TAKE THIS ONE STEP AT A TIME, YOU WILL FIND IT. YOUR CLUTCHING AIN,T CAUSEING THIS EITHER. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Just FYI. If it is the stator, you CAN replace the stator without removing the engine.
