1998 SRX700 Buying Advice - What to look for, problems, etc.

Been reading this site for over 1 hour and it is fantastic!

Looking at getting a '98 SRX and would like to know if there is anything I should be on the lookout for.

I've read something about the "W skid?" (I think) cracking? Can anyone explain and post actual photos of this? (of the part I need to look at closely)

I am aware of the crank problems/recall. Will EVERY early SRX need have problems with the crank? What are the symptoms?

What are the potential problem areas of this sled that I need to look for when doing a pre-purchase inspection?

As you can probably tell, I am new to the SRX. What rpms should I expect the clutch to engage at? What rpms should it cruise at, say 30mph, 60, etc?

Anything else I need to know about these before buying?

I had a 98 and yes the crank had to taken care of but that was it, it performed flawless.

I only felt a slight vibration when the crank went out of phase, it still rode fine and never stranded me. I know other guys had bigger probs when theirs went so maybe I was one of the fortunate ones. I would call Yamaha Cust Service (800 962-7926) with your VIN number, they will tell you if you sled has been in for any warrenty repairs.

I never had the W arm issues so I cant help you there unfortunatly.

try a search on w arm there's pic's and tell what the problem and fix's are

all '98's and some '99's had it but after that you were good.

none really great sleds,you need to make sure power valves are working
not pulled,clean and adjust them(try a search on that stuff lots to read)
