When I started my SXR for the first time this year is didn't want to warm up like it usually does. By that I mean, normally I give it a couple pulls and it will start up with full choke on. Then run well after I turn the choke pretty much immediately to middle position for 30 seconds or so. I then can turn the choke off completely and sled will warm up well over the next couple minutes with no issues.

It is now not wanting to run without the choke on the middle position so I thought I better put new plugs in it to see if they were fouled. That didn't help and I found it to be running on only two cylinders. I proceded to pull the carbs and found some white/chunks in the bowl. Maybe 3-4 pieces per carb and when I put these on my finger they would smear like paste and dissolve.

I always run stabilizer before I put the sled away however I'm unsure of what to think of this stuff. I drained tank/carbs and also found a plugged pilot jet on one cylinder. Will be replacing that today. Also, this is the second plugged pilot jet in 2 years. I've had this sled for over 6 years with no issues and now this has happened twice in the last 15 rides.

Sorry for the long post but does anyone have an idea what the white stuff could be? And why am I now plugging pilot jets? I tried to change the in tank fuel filter but that looks nearly impossible. It did look ok throught fuel fill opening.

Thoughts??

Did you say you drained the gas tank and carbs ? I don't drain the gas I us stabil and seems to work for me. But I will pull the carbs and give them the once over.

I don't know what exactly the white stuff is but I had the same exact stuff in my carb bowls this year. I didn't use Sta-Bil last year and I took the carbs off before I ever started it this year to put remote adjusters on it. That's when I noticed the white stuff in the bowls. Anyway my pilots were all plugged. All you need to do is spray some carb cleaner through them then blow them out with compressed air. Then do the same with the main jets. I also just sprayed carb cleaner into the needle and seats and then every other passage in the carbs (like the fuel screws, which I took out before spraying through them). You're about the 500th person that's had their pilots plugged so far this year. I have used Sta-Bil before and got lucky and didn't need to clean the carbs when riding time finally came but I personally wouldn't trust using that. You're better off just taking them off and cleaning them before you start riding for the season instead of risking a burn down due to dirty carbs. It's not that hard to do anyway and in case you haven't seen it Mrviper700 posted a "carb cleaning 101" article on here just in case you're unsure about anything. :letitsnow

Thanks guys for the help and suggestions. I put new gas in it and cleaned the carbs well. Also replaced the one plugged pilot jet and installed a stone inline fuel filter. It now runs GREAT! Firing on all cyl's now and just need more snow. I think the white stuff could have been moisture.

Thanks again!

Hard to say what it was, could be crapy gas,buy gas at another station.

use stabil and leave the gas in..

Daman, I did use stabil as I do every year. Must have been bad gas...
Yea Bandit, the white globs are getting to a lot of people this year. Time for fresh gas a little dry gas and it's ready to go.
