I can't get the rear axle to move on my 1995 Vmax. I am trying to remove it to replace bogie wheels. I could only get the lock nut off. Does the axle run the entire length? I can turn the bolt but the nut side doesn't move. The axle bolt must be in two pieces huh? Can I pound the bogies off/on?

I recently replaced all the rear wheels on my Rx-1 and didn't have any troubles. Man this is a bummer.

I went to Yamaha parts and went to 95 Vmax and got a pic of your suspension. It is 1 piece axle of coarse. You could have a problem with your axle.

First make sure the track tension is released. You may have a broken axle bolt.

See if you can pull the Nut side out by pullin on the nut. Then try pulling the bolt side. You may have to drive something into the bolt on the nut end, and take the nut off with a wrench. Then you can drive the bolt out with a long punch or drift pin.

Ok this is really fun we just did mine on my 96 xt yesterday. Have my skid out though. We ended up haveing to take the cutting torch to the side of the spacers on the outside of the rails 1-1/2" piece We cut it enough to free it then pulled them off the rest slid right out after. Then you can order a new set, or cut some out of 13/16 ID x 1-1/8 OD pipe. You can however try to shoot some penetrating oil on the spacers and such to see if they will budge then hammer on the shaft.

Basic design is as follows

1 Bolt running full length. Spacers on the outside spacers on the inside with the bearing between said spacers. Make sure all snap rings and such are off before hammering.

I did see the axle bolt appears to be one piece. Maybe we snapped it when we backed it out. The funny thing is that it appeared to be weld to the collar. We tried banging on the nut end and it wouldn't budge. I am going to let it soak and try pound it out again. I hate to cut it up.

On the bogies I didn't notice any snap rings besides the clips in the rear which I thought held the bearing into the bogie wheel and not the bogie on the axle. Shouldn't they just slide off?

once you loosen track and remove nut, should just easily bang the axle right out and all the spacers and wheels should just fall down.Removed mine twice last week to repair and then replace my rear wheels.

Ya ,in a perfect world they will fall right out.............unfortunately this is not a perfect world and your junk is old, collars freeze up on the axle and somtimes you just cant get it unstuck. You can try heat but be careful as too much will melt the axle, in which case your problem will be solved, new axle.I would plan on replaceing it if I were you.somtimes it just aint worth the effort to try and salvage somthing that old! Most any old axle from a yammy will go back in er....I just had to do my sx, put a old axle out of a phazer sus. in it.,, had to torch it out, took 1 hour ...problem solved!

Well, I finally got everything out and back together. What actually worked for me was to continue back out the bolt which actually was seated into a collar, giving the appearance of a long bolt. Long story short, I lucked out! After backing the bolt out, everything moved pretty good. I believe rust and corrosion were the main culprits in my tough removal! Thanks for the help! :letitsnow
