I have both cluthes off of my 97 VMax 600 SX. It has about 4000 miles on it and I don't know if the clutches have ever had anything replaced in them. I have new buttons for the secondary and new rollers for the primary. I have both cluthes off of the sled. I've never done any clutch work before. Could someone give me some tips on how to disassemble and reassemble, what to look for in terms of wear and what else I should do to them while I have them apart.
Thanks for your help.

ok, false alarm. I have the clutches apart (piece of cake) and it's obvious what's worn (weights, rollers and buttons. My question now is what is the best way to clean up everything and do I put them back together with any lubrication or dry?

clean with compressed air, and put them together dry. You can clean the clutch faces with a scotch brite pad and rubbing alcohol too. Maxdlx

Also check the sliding sheave bushings for to much play. Some say dry and some say super thin coat of molly on the weights. Yamaha weights are made from a very soft material so make sure everything is good or the weights will go bye-bye in a hurry. I switched to a Comet last year and they recommend a thin layer of molly on the weights.
