here is the issue 03 viper
When slowing down and coming to a stop or slow creep at around 4000 RPM's
it hangs there for a couple seconds then sputters. I have to let the sled come down to an idle then she goes good again. No High RPM issues.
I cleaned the carbs because it wouldnt idle right and had low end bog. Pilots
were plugged. Could they be plugged again? The current symptoms are different then before. any help?
Thanks

Check the pilots again. what size pilots are you running? should be 45's. set fuel screws to 1-7/8 turns out. Also, bypass the tors sensor to make sure that's not causing any issues. If you have too little throttle cable slack, it will go into a safe mode and retard the timing so you can't take off. but this doesn't sound like its it. you said rpms hang up at 4000 and take a while to come back down. So, your low end is lean. just double check the pilots. spray brake clean on them and hit them with a good strong air blast. look thru them at some light to be sure that they are clean. also, check and see if the fuel screws are at 1-7/8 turns out. If they are and it still idles high turn fuel screws out to 2 turns out. you might want to double check that your throttle cable isn't too tight. it will make a high idle if your tors is already bypassed. is your idle just set too high?

when I first start it it idles fine. I can take off fine and it runs mint. As I slow down, either coming to a stop or making a sharp turn the idle hangs at 4000 for just a second or two then it will go back to normal idle.As it goes back to normal Idle it sputters for a second. If I try to give it gas again before I let it idle right down it bogs quite a bit. I will check the cable tension and cleaned the pilots and check the pilot mixtures screws. This is the first year I have had any issues with carbs. What about gas quality? I would think I would feel that at higher rpms as well.
Thanks

I would definitely check the throttle cable for being too tight. You removed the carbs and found the first problem was plugged pilots, then re-install the carbs and are now having this problem when you LET OFF THE GAS. Hopefully you just got the cable a little too tight and TORS is your problem, very easy to get cable adjusted wrong when doing the carbs. Loosen it a bit and see what ya get.

I am going to rip it apart today. I will definately check the throttle cable first. I will let you know how it goes.
thanks

Throttle is fine and I cleaned the carbs again. Nothing looked plugged or anything. Still doing it though :o| . I noticed that when it skips for that split second and I try to rev it out it bogs. It will remain to bog untill I let it idle down.
I bypassed the tors too. Any more suggestions would be great.
thanks

Change your plugs? Maybe plug cap? sometimes things can be simple and not always logical or the way it should be. good luck!

I havnt put brand new ones in yet. I swapped them with a spare used set I had. Didnt think the pluggs would cause this but I needed a new set anyway. My dealership isnt open so I will wait and see.
Thanks again for the responses. Hopefully I can get this resolved soon.
Its the wifes sled and she isnt very happy when I go out riding without her.

put in new plugs and carbs are spotless. still doing it.
Any more suggestions. I dont want to take this thing to the dealer.
Power valves wouldnt do this would it?
What about clutch. Everything seems to look ok though?
Thanks

i am having the same problem with my 2001 srx, but it only seems to do it every once and a while. if i hit the choke on and off it will return to normal. i have had no luck with finding the problem.

My viper has done this for a couple years now....the only fix I've found is to turn the idle down to about 15-1400 rpm's. I tried adjusting the the fuel screws out to 2 turns, then 2-1/4 turns, cleaned the carbs to death numerous times, then I even went up to 47.5 pilots and still didn't fix it. It would only settle down when I blipped the choke. So I turned the idle down, and it idles down better-- takes a while, but it comes down-- sometimes need a snap of the throttle. I never had a bog, but it sounds like what yours is doing, and it's a pretty common problem. Love to find a permanent fix or what's causing it....

Finally figured it out. It ended up being the tors.
I read a thread on how to bypass and I took it wrong. I connected the two carburator side wires together, not the harness side wires together. I found a post where somewhere else did the same thing.
At least my carbs are spotless now and the sled is running mint.
Thanks for all the help.

if your hitting the choke then its a lean bog which keeps your idle up for a second or 2 to 20 seconds....keep turning your fuel screws out a 1/4 turn at a time to see when it stops hanging up....
