On my 93 exciter 2 sx, i get a very bad vibration sometimes. The last time that the sled was vibrating, the belt broke. I put a brand new belt on it and checked to see if everything was tight and not worn. Everything looked good so I tried to ride it again and the vibration was still there so i shut it off and went over everything again without finding anything that seemed to be wrong. I checked the track and made sure that it was tight and checked the belt tensioner which seemed to be ok but I don't really know for sure as I can't seem to find any tech manuals for this sled.

It could be a clutch problem.
Watch eBay for a service manual, make sure it is a genuine Yamaha manual.
Or get one from a Yamaha dealer

when does it vibrate at idle it is a balance problem or is it when sled is moving

I think I've located the problem. One of the jackshaft bearings has fallen apart. The one next to the secondary sheeve which I believe would cause the belt to be very unstable and vibrate all over the place. I'm going to replace the bearing and give it a shot.

I had the exact same thing happen to me 2 yrs ago. replace the bearing and you should be good to go.

I got everything apart and found that the bearing was locked up and had worn a groove into the jackshaft so I replaced everything and it ran great up until the primary sheave snapped off from the motor this afternoon. Guess I'll be taking the bottom end apart tomorrow.

what do you mean the crank end broke off

When the crank exits the engine, it broke. the shaft is inside the primary sheeve still. But after taking the engine apart, I found that one of the pistons was starting to fail. A lot of small grooves in the side of the piston and the rings are locked solid to the piston, no damage to the cylinder though. Going to get a new piston and have the cylinder honed just in case there's something I can't see. Also going to replace all the fuel and oil lines since it's already apart and I've got to wait a few days for the piston. I was experiencing a bogging problem at low speeds. WOT was great though. I found that when it started to bog, I could shut the fuel off and it would start to run again and then turn the fuel back on right away and then I'd be fine till I had to stop or slow down, then bogging again. I'll take some pics later today and post them.

The crank can be repaired at a shop that does crank work.

I'm considering getting it fixed because my other motor continuously over heats and I can't locate the problem.

bad thermostate......I thought they had bad thermostates in them those years
I Saw Only 1 Other Crank Do That At The Dealership Back In The Day And It Was On A 93 Exciter Sx.i Remember His Primary Was Heat Scored And Grooved Up Badly.a Few Bad Crank End Shafts Perhaps?but In Your Case Probably Was The Strain Trying To Overcome The Bad Jackshaft Bearing
WAS THE CYLINDERS EVER RESLEEVED?ace16a said:I'm considering getting it fixed because my other motor continuously over heats and I can't locate the problem.

If you ran the sled for awhile with the vibration I would expect to see driveline component failure like your crank. Vibration will tear stuff up worse than anthing other than direct metal to metal contact. If there were any little flaw in the crank material the vibration would have started or propagated a crack that lead to the failure. Take a look at the end of the crank, I will bet that about 98% of it looks crytaline and shiney but there's probably a very small area that looks flat and gray which is where the crack that ultimately lead to the failure would have been. I've done a lot of failure analysis in my job and can say that vibration is nothing to fool around with when it comes to drivetrains.

your overheating motor could be a bad thermostate....they aren't very good in these sleds.....I've seen a few fail including my own in my exciter sx
