hi guys, i have a 97 sx 700. i will be going the U.P this winter with a group of friends for a week. we will be staying in Deer Park. i have never ridden in the U.P can you guys give me any advice on how i should set my sled up for the trip? i am worried about my track because is is only 3/4 inch lug. and i here the snow accumulation up there is astronomical!! anyway id appreciate any hints or advise you can give. thanks.

If the trails are grromed nice you will be just fine. You have any picks in the track? Maybe next year make it a long track project or upgrade to a rip saw.

Check the tech section for some good clutching and jetting tips. But I can tell ya now. Turk is gonna tell ya to go to 142.5 mains jets straight across and drop the needles 1 clip position.

Riding in the UP is like riding any place else in Michigan ... if your on the trails any sled will do just fine. If you go off trail you would probably get stuck with that track, but then again they don't get snow like they use to!

the best money i spent was a set of bender tranfer rods improved traction on a groomed trail better weight transfer also can adjust coupling

I started riding in 01/02 with a stock VMax 600ER. After that I bought a new 04 ViperER. I used to follow my buddy around on and off trail. I have only gotten my sleds stuck a couple times. I am very careful about where I go, but I could follow him anywhere. My wife got the VMax stuck off the trail in 4' of powder. I am thinking it wouldn't have mattered what you were riding in that 4' of snow, you were getting stuck if you stopped?

On the trails there is never a problem. They are very well maintained. If there is snow, there are groomers out. As mentioned, we haven't seen the snow we used to. This year though looks like it could be another good year. Sure hope so anyway.

I upgraded to a 136 1.25 lug track on the Viper this year in hopes of seeing a little more off trail. In the past I rode mostly on the trails. I did however my first year follow my buddy off trail. He was riding a stock VMax 500 with a 121 3/4 lug track. I was riding my VMax 600 with 121 3/4 lug track. We rode an old jeep trail for a few miles in snow that was well over a foot deep of fresh fallen snow. The whole time we rode we were leaving a foot deep path behind us. I was amazed at where these things would go in that kind of snow.

I am sure you will have fun!

thanks for all the hints and advice guys i appreciate it.
And Girl!!
Have fun up there, and pay attention to where the gas stations are. They tend to be a little farther apart then other places, and some close early!

You'll be fine unless you try water skipping with that sled, the 3/4 doesn't grab enought water, and water sprays in and hoses down the primary clutch.
