I have a 50/40 in my piped viper. I've tried moving waight around to gain some mph and rpm, but no luck. Just a little heads up on the 50/40. It may work for you depending on what your trying to achieve. I'm going to try a shallower finish angle and see if i can get some more speed out of this thing. It goes like hell till 95 mph and thats it.
justaviper, 50/40 works excellant, its probally your weight placement and spring tension used in the rear, you can get plenty of speed from a 50/40, with a 40 finish youll run less tip weight then that of a shallower finsh, however in a piped viper you wont be running tip weight anyways at 9000+ rpm, so loading it some with the helix finsih will work good.
If you post your set up I may be able to help tweak it for you.

I lost the instruction sheet so i'm not sure on the waight of the bolts and washers. Right now I have the small bolt with 6 washers in the heel to get the engagement at 4200 with 50mm rollers. Long bolt with 2 flat washers and 1 lock washer in the middle, tip empty. Red H/C primary, 50/40, green secondary at 70. I've tried less waight in the middle with tip empty. More and less waight in the tip with middle empty. I'm starting to think because its a 136 ripsaw track that thats all this sled will do. I was thinking of trying the secondary at 80 because i get a slight bog in the deep snow. I'm afraid if i do i'll have no top end speed at all. Then again it may raise the rpm enough to pull more mph? It seems no matter what i do i can only get 8500 rpm.
I replaced the big middle bolt with a small one with 1 lock washer. Set the helix at 80. 8700 rpm and 110mph in about 1/4 mile. It was still climbing but i had no room left. Its amazing the difference a few slight adjustments make. Now i need anti ratchet drivers LOL. The 50/40 does work good, it just took me a while to get it set up. I think i'm going to try a 50/36 though just to see if there's any gain.
