I am toying with the idea of doing a motor swap in a 1991 VMax 540 to a newer case reed 2 stroke, or even a tripple if possible. I do not have the sled yet, so I cannot do any measurements to see if there is room. Any experience or ideas on this subject would be appreciated.

570 Exciter and 600 twin Vmax engines are an easy swap. A tripple will be real tight but might be possible. I have a picture of an 81 SRX (same amount of room as your Vmax) with a Vmat 4 engine in it. I'm sure there was major surgery involved but not enough detail in the pick to see.

I used to put 570 EX motors in 81's when all those chassis were laying around, made a nice sled. We put triples in Phazers but that was a job, had to redo alot of the frame. My triple in my EX wasn't bad except for the pipes. Putting a triple in the 540 would be a bitch because of the frame.
I would love to see close up pics of that 81' with the V4 in it. There can't be much left of the front frame, the twin just fits in between the frame rails, they had to cut it all off and create something else.

Hmmm.....seeing that 4 cylinder in there makes me quite happy. If they can fit that in there, I'm sure I can figure something out to get a bigbore 780 srx motor in there, and maybe have Jaws fit in a set of lake race pipes. I think a completely stock looking 1991 Vmax 540 with a well ported 780 pushing 180 hp on pump fuel would be alot of fun, don't you?
