After many faithful years of service i have decided it is time to rebuild my sx.
I am planning on a extensive rebuild to start this summer, but i need some info..

1st- i would like to put a different skid under it. something that will soak up the bumps better. alot better. would a pro-x ,switchback or a rev suspension work. i would also like to stretch it to at least a 136".
How much suspension can i put under it without affecting the handling and make it too tippy? how will this affect track angle? Would i have to machine up some blocks for mounting?
I have a friend who has a CNC in his garage and we can make all necessary parts needed.

give me any option that may work.

2nd- I will try to find a 94-96 xt front end and add a little more cusion up front, but i would like to widen the front a little also.( trying to keep it from geting to tippy) who or where could i get a widening kit from.

I have a ton of experience messing around with ATV's but i have never really been into my sled except to summerize it and get it ready for winter, so this is all very new to me. i'm not nervous i just like to know what my options are before i start.

thanks,
Felix

P.S. I was thinking of painting it Yammi Blue with some white accents. what's your take on a new color scheme?

I think the SX was wider then the previous model year. I had a 92 with a widening kit installed. The guy didn't have the rubber spacer that fits between the shock towers and side panel. I had to get them from a wrecked 93 SX. I don't know if there is much you can do about the tippiness. that was the nature of those sleds. Lots of people called them pogo stick suspension for a reason.

Rear suspension . I have seen a couple of phazers with a edge suspension under them. looks pretty good. Look for a 136 extra light out of a 2000 Polaris RMK, or a extra 10. You can probably use any oem so long as you get the measurements right for suspension mounts. Check Tracks USA , they have a bunch right now.

Paint scheme. Blue looks sweet. I seen one last year and had to do a rubber neck a few times. Looks really good and best of all , it's different.

I'd leave it alone, don't ruin an SX. If you want a sled to hack up go pick up something cheap, those SX's are rare. For the money you'd end up dumping into the project you can probably pick up a newer, wider, more powerful, sled with a 136 already under it.

I'm not trying to "ruin" it. i just want to enhance what is already a great sled.

And it's not in premium shape anymore. When i bought it one of the front panels was broke and rivted together (still is). the seat has a big tear in it. all the bolts are rusted tight. and the shocks are more of a balast than an absorber.

I know it's retarded to put money into a old sled but if i just put somethings on here and there this summer it will be ready by next winter. besides my wife just got laid off and is going back to school. so my option of buying a new sled is at least 2 yrs away.

it's time to show the old girl some love and give her a makeover. trim a little fat and put on some new clothes..

P.S. just put on some rx1 skis tonite and i'm interested to see how it handles the trails.

I also agree!

I have a 93 SX with 1,400 miles new to me. I am having a PSI pipe installed that I found on ebay, new old stock never used, a 6 pitch track and studs (using drop brackets to get clearance and going to 8 tooth drivers).

I also added new RX1 skis to it.

I think this will be sufficient. I don't want to touch the motor or front end at all.

Thoughts?

Yup, I have a great thought. Sell it to me! ;)! Sounds like you found a real nice sled there. I'd love to get my hands on a mint condition SX one of these days.
