welcome to the site......
had on of those L o n g time ago, IIC top end was like 75-80+ish,plugs
BR9ES @ .028-.031 oil injected so not much to worry about just check
oil pump cable free play for spec.
damn good little sled very reliable run forever, not loaded with hp but snappy
had over 12,000 miles on 'er when sold, only down side small gas tank( i think 7.5ish gals only.)

i had a 1987 srv put pipe on it i think it turned 6800 to 7000 cant remember for sure but it did have a small tank but i could outrun a stock 650 polaris the only problem i had was a piston clip came out and the piston pin wore a groove in cylinder but still ran it was a fun sled but a cold sled

Loved the SRV's. My biggest "warning" is the small gas tank/limited range. As I recall, 75 miles and you are out! Suspension was pretty good for the day. Top speed should be around 80; 500 rpm is too low for max rpm. Time to go through both clutches.
Have fun!

Cool sled- I had one also. My dad had a 88' phazer and we would race ALL the time. The suspension(rear)in the 83' SRV/VMAX's were used up till @ 1995-96' . Stock Hp. should be @ 60-ish at @ 7200-7300 rpm. Depending on your primary clutch set-up (I think they were std. with comet 120c's from the factory on 83 and 84's) Engagement should be @ 4000 rpm +/- 200rpm. I seem to remember on icy roads they would do over 90 (on the speedo) . Sounds like your clutches need some work, your speedo key is busted, and have your stator/trigger coils checked for resistance....change spark plug caps just to rule them out while your at it.Oh yea spark plugs were BR9EV(thats what they called for in the manual)-but BR9ES will work just fine and gap is .028"- .031" AND the SRV should have autolube oil injection .Like I said before-still a cool looking sled.
Have fun with it.
