Need info on what pistons were used to make big bore SRX 76-80.
Had Wiseco make me some many years ago, but way to expensive to do
now. I had heard that a rotax piston was used by some aftermarket companys to make a 500.
Any info would be helpful.
Thanks
Steve

SRX big bore
I ran a 500 big-bore '77 SRX years ago. They make alot of power and are easy to build. We used 540 Vmax pistons in a set of sleeved '77 cylinders (bored for the 73mm pistons). The worst part for me was the different wrist-pin size on the old '77 rods, so we had to have newer style rods pressed onto the old crank to accept the Vmax piston pins. Aaen did all the machining for us, as well as the porting and fitting a set of his 10-port style pipes for the SRX chassis. If you're working with a '78 or newer bottom end, you don't have to worry about the wrist pin size problems.

Besides machining of cases was there any other machine work needed with the VMax pistons.
Is piston pin location the same? Were spacers used under cylinders?
Thanks

It is a perfect fit if you have the big end rods. I don't even remember having to machine the cases. You do need to cut the piston skirts to the correct length and cut the heads, however.OU81DOO said:Besides machining of cases was there any other machine work needed with the VMax pistons.
