I have a 2001 Srx that is approaching 7000 miles and has a stock motor. It runs great and after four years I have it dialed in perfectly for my riding style. My question is, what are guys doing to freshen these up? Should I do new rings and pistons or just keep on riding it? How many miles is considered alot for this motor. I can see myself driving it for a few more seasons, It rides great, handles great, has more power than I could ever use on the Vermont trails, and yes it looks great. Any comments are appreciated.
The general consensus is to re-ring every 5000miles or so, mic the pistons while you're in there and if out of spec, replace them too.

these mill's will go a long time for sure,but do a top end every 4-5k to keep
it running like new..
if you got time and want to do it right;
pull motor do rings, mic pistons for outa spec wear, @ 7,000 they may be.
split case check bearings, install new seals, etc, etc....
use all OEM parts too!!!
after done use a good full synthetic oil like Amsoil,Klotz, etc...
these SRX's are worth the time and $$..

iam with damn you might as well inspect completly no better time this will insure trouble free seasons plus performace will be as good as new do it right now not later because it will cost you more take it from me ive learned the hard way to save 100 dollars it cost me 1000 quid
Well finish this season off first...rebuild in the off season...most can pull an engine & then they send them out or take the whole thing in to a dealer=$$$...I did my own, with limited tools & previous (like 23 yrs ago machine shop knowledge) engine knowhow...If I was to do it again. I would get a hold of mrviper700, ask him what exactly what he wants when I send it out to him...I would get him to lightly trail port it & then rebuild it...ship it back & just re install & ready to go...play with turks or mrvipers clutch setups & you will have an extremely reliable QUICK sled...not to mention a wicked on your face...cheersSRX M10 said:I have a 2001 Srx that is approaching 7000 miles and has a stock motor.
