I just took apart my 98 srx to clean the carbs and there was a lot of oil and greasy buildup inside the airbox. Is this normal? Just recently the oil light has been flickering I have been looking for that problem as well I think that is a loose electrical connection but now am wondering if it is related. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks

Its normal. There will some some back spit but not alot. Overtime there will be alot of oil and grease in there from the gas that has evaporated and left the oil behind from back spit.

More then likey, if you oil tank is full and the light is coming on it is just a bad oil level sensor. You can pop it out of the resevior to replace it with a new one.

I don't have an SRX but I've asked this same question before and it's normal. I could have sworn I read a couple of years ago something saying it could possibly be caused by worn reeds but I changed mine (put in brand new Yamaha reeds) and I still get all the oil in the airbox. My reeds all looked fine too so I really didn't need to change them.

yep normal...I get the same thing on my red head and I heard the same thing about reeds but dont pay attention...normal normal normal..that is what I heard

Again norm.,,i put new OEM reeds in the X when i got her and it still does it,
any tripple will do this, twins don't because of the boost bottle..
