While cleaning the carbon off the power valves on my 98 SRX 700 I discovered number two valve has a broken cable. Can anything be damaged by running the machine until I get a new cable, or can I just expect sluggish performance? Thanks. Steve

There are probably more people out there with non working valves than there are with all 3 working correctly. I ran mine with 2 valves that were pulled through for quite some time and it didnt effect anything except the sled wasen't performing like it should.
I wouldnt worry, but sill get the new cable in ASAP

Good old broken valves. I have a sled here right now that I am working on for a guy that has all three cables pulled through the valves. I had to pretty well pry the valves out of the cylinders, as I am sure they have been like that for a few thousand miles. I'm sure that sled was only doing about 80 mph. Under the hood is extremely filthy. I've never seen clutches so dirty. The buttons on the secondary were nearly wore right out. There were no set screws in either the jackshaft bearing or the driveshaft bearing, so they were just spinning away. There was only about 1/2 the proper amount of chaincase oil. Of course the W-arm was broken. I was surprised to see the cross shaft was good. I pulled off the sliders which were nearly wore out, and discovered that, in the past, the sliders were completely burnt off and are wore right through the rails at the bend. The lack of maintenance on some sleds just kills me.

Hi Valin: never ceases to amaze me the little things I find wrong that could easily develop into big expensive problems while cleaning. Probably the best thing one can do for their machine is to keep her clean, goes a long way to make problems evident. Like Scotty used to say about the Enterprise "treat her like a lady, and she'll always bring you home". By the way, is that ghost flames like Foose from overhaulin' makes painted on your sled? I have an extra hood for my 700 that has just a small bit of damage on it, and I would like to really go to town on it with some candy-apple blue with silver ghost flames. I've done some candy apple on four by fours in my younger years, but don't know how to do the ghost flames. Thanks and happy new year. Steve.
