Has Yamaha really made a great leap in all there sleds ( not just the Phazer ) or is cat still the leader in the big bump area ?

Phazer skid is a disaster yamaha should field test first.

840 miles in 3 days. Wisconsin/Michigan
1 1998 srx700 (me)
1 2003 renegade 800
1 2007 jagz1000
1 2007 phazer, Yamaha should be ashamed of the skid in this thing!!!
last year 300 miles on the phazer the skid broke. The dealer repaired it and it broke again around 800 miles. then there was an upgrade done
Dec. 27 the phazer overheated at least 10 times in 276 miles.
Dec. 28 the phazers rear shock blew at 100 miles, around 150 miles the headpipe cracked off of the flange, now the mighty phazer had an exhaust leak. (the phazer ran 84mph with exhaust leak, 79mph GPS,with no leaks??????????)
The Yamaha dealer in hancock (M&M powersports great guys) took a shock and head pipe off of a 2008 phazer for us, fixed the blue embarrassment and off we went. The trails were like hiways, 120 miles from Hancock to Ironwood in under 2 hours we were rockin. 326 miles for day 2 and the phazer only overheated 6 or 7 times it was a bit cooler out that day.
Dec. 29 around 120 miles into the day the yamaha upgrade to the skid failed once again. A few bumps later the 2 bolts that hold the front arm of the skid in the tunnel sheared off clean. We had to abandon the phazer near Eagle River WI. So the new yamaha rider had to ride on the back of an arctic cat for 90 miles back to Ironwood. 238 miles for day 3.
I have bought 5 brand new yamaha's since 1988
I think next year I'll be doo-in it.

SHAME ON YOU BIG BLUE for not testing that phazer before selling it.

Hmmm one reply, I guess Yamaha has still not stepped up to the plate with there rear skids in this year of 2008.

cats suck! most unreliable sled out there. i love my yamaha for is reliability, but they really need to make some progress on there suspention. i really don't think any company has come close to the ski doo rev style. you can never beat a yamaha triple

After clutch/gearing this subject has to be the most discussed. People pulling out the Pro-Action and putting in M-10s, SC-III, Edge, or Cat. Based on what you see in the industry, a torsion spring skid is perceived as the best OEM. The ride differences come in how its packaged in each Mfg's frame (Rev, IQ, Twin Spar and DeltaboxII). Yamaha is all over the board with skids. Pro-action, Mono, torsion, "dual shock". IMO the best skid is the one most easy to tune for ones riding style, that is one with either Fox or a Ryde. Lots of new/used product on the market at decent $ and there is a rebuilder readily avail.

I hope you like repairs

I will let you know, yes the cat has a better skid, ask the guy who ride them to tell you how many wheels they repalce each year along with all the other times the cat is in the shop it will kill you, I sold my cat this year it was my second f cat and both were problems the entire time , i kept my old 600sx for when my cats broke..... and it seemed like i put more mile on my old yamaha.... thats my 2 cents

2002 SRX very happy again

The poo skid rides awesome in the proaction chasis.I rode with snoxr he has a cat skid and it rides awesome and there are a few guys that love the doo skids.

I think you mis read,he's talking about putting other maufacture skids in the yamaha.

I have put some miles on my srx with the sc10111 over the holidays and even rode double with a guy from cambodia for a hour.He had never been on a sled so it was fun.Torsion spring adjusters are at 3\4 setting and front shock has 2 more knotches before max.Worked great and found sitting over the tank gave a even better ride.Standing up over the junk was very comfortable and did not bounce so bad that you had to slow down.Lots of comments at trail stops from the doo guys and even had a guy take my # about installing a skid in his sx after he saw me unloading sunday. This is a good inexpesive upgrade and will help anybody out with measurments if needed http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u94/bluewho2007/IMG_1186.jpg[/IMG]

Some of you guys are hilarious cutting up other manufacturers..... wake up and smell the roses

Yamaha has by far the WORST suspension in the industry hands down.... i really like my edge, our cats all ride great, and my uncles rev with the SC4 also rides very good...

yeah, it is unfortunate that yami had quite a few years of not so great skids.

Notice the cat wheel issue was brought up again?? it's something they do have a problem with.

the proaction is a bad design no question on that. its heavy, hard to adjust, breaks front shock mounts and w arms. took me 6 years on it to be able to tune it into my riding style and that was only after a set of race ohlins off their early late 90s early 2000s race sleds. set was 5 grand new and i had the 2 rears. also i had to get adjustable transfer rods and weld and brace the W arm. so far to get my phazer rtx tuned into my riding style. 2 clicks on the rear shock and an extra 10 psi in the front floats. the new duel shock skid is set up like evey other manufacturers skid. all of them use the same technology same design. onlything that realy makes a different now aways is the shocks. there are some settle difference that make small changes but it depends on ur riding style. i need a big bump sled around here. so i need stiffer suspention with more travel. alot of other places have nice flat gromed trails. its better to have a plusher suspention. a fox position sentive would be better there. there is no one best skid. now adays they are all very close just depends on what exact characteristics ur lookin for.

The cat you see in my first post is an extremely reliable sled. He left it alone and just rides it. He use to tinker but its like chasing your tail.
I just wanted to know who has the best skid out there, not swaping anything into a Yamaha just all around best skid. I think cat has it down pat.

Polaris edge is freaking AWESOME

We had cats in the past and once dialed in were also some of the best riding sleds we had but we couldn't keep them going, never a engine issue but everything adapted to the suzuki engine failed, efi, starter, electrical issues, wiring harness, etc etc. It was a nice riding sled when it ran though

Went to yamahas after riding a viper not for the suspension for the engine, suspension was a let down, revalved the shocks and it was tolerable.

My RX I rode once and swapped in a Polaris edge, wow what a difference, just soaks up bumps, like having a groomer on the front end. Loved the skid and still have it but replaced it with the ZX2 soley for the 20lb weight loss. So far I like it it alot as well.

I have ridden a Doo SC3, Doo SC4, Polaris Edge, Polaris extra 10, Cat ZR that I can think of other then the extra 10 they ALL perfomed nice I was never NOT satisfed with any of them. No durability issues on any of them and like I said all rode soooo nice. My personal preferance is the edge with andy year Fox PPS shock, serisouly it soaks up 3-6" bumps without even me knowing it, the larger ones it has a hard time bottoming out, great shock, and the skid as SOOO much adjustment if you can't get it to ride like ya want nothing will.

the xtra 10 was a very good skid, esp when equipped with the PPS rear shock and fox front.
The edge skid is nicer, mostly because it has more suspension travel.

I do agree with you about the cat issues, as it seems almost everyone has had a lot of issues one should not have on any sled that seem to be almost a cat exclusive.

I had an extra 10 for 5 seasons with fox shocks. I hated it. Had shocks rebuilt and it still rode like crap....messed around with it a bunch, which was easy, rode bad though...ok about the same as my SRX with pioneer long travel shocks....not good compared to others.

which model?

the 96 xcr 600 with the original xtra 10 and fox shocks we had never rode anywhere near as nice as the 00 xcsp 600 I have with the fox front, and rear PPS. and that was when both were stock setup shocks. We re did both before the same season with the best oil at the time, and nitrile seals and the xcr was better, the xcsp was re valved to my 220lb at the time weight, in addition to getting a different PPS shim, and the same oil and seals that the scr got. Both rode dramatically better after getting re built/ re worked.

i would check with your dealor they must be going to come out with updates they always do havea look at the first year srx every crank was done

Well i dont think they have any upgrades other than a new sled maybie.Just look at it as a wear item.......any sled from any manufacture that can put on the miles a yamaha can will need parts upgraded and replaced sometime in there life.
