as in making the SX suspention like say 11.5 inch like a sxr or xtc? then yes just change shocks and limiter straps. now u cant turn like a 11.5 inch travel into a 13 or 14 like the new sleds have.

Ok so I bought the XT shocks and now some one tells me that I have to change the bars also. My sled came with 8CX47494-00-00 and the XT comes with 8CR-47494-00-00 are these longer? I need to order this to get this sled back together . I leave for a week in 2 weeks. Has anyone done this with out the bars. My sled is a 98 700sx with ohlins front shocks.
You can make spacers for the bottom of the rods that will make the stock rods work. They need to be the same diamater as the stock rods so that the white bushings will fit on them. 10mm long rings a bell and a longer bolt in the end of the rod to keep it all together. Ran my srx for two years this way without a problem.
Depending on who you talk to you might need new limiter straps as well. I was able to just let mine out and everything has worked fine.

I beleive he is talking about #83, adding to the length to allow the suspension to stretch out, or you could buy some aftermarket adjustable transfer rods

You can buy adjustable transfer rods or take the plastic washers out..
83 it is. I think I used a chunk of an iron gas pipe nipple that I had sitting in the garage. Little time with a hacksaw and the grinder I was good to go.

So I finally got it in the shop tonight. The RX1 shocks came in the mail. I am going to take measurements before and after. I am want to know what you have for measurements. I am also looking at the RX1 front shocks and the mounts look the same. Will these bolt on and work ok? I am about 6.1 and weight 350 so I need to have all the suspension I can get. What is the length of a non XT rear shock? It has been 20 years since I had the skid out of a sled and just want to do it right the first time.

Ok, I got it done. With stock shocks it was 19 in to bottom of rear bumper. After new rear RX1 shocks both set on low it has 21.8 at rear bumper. I am going to click up the springs a couple of notches and wait for snow. This is what I was trying to prevent.
I think maybe the picks were too long. I bought this from a friend who just installed this track and picks. I think it had the wrong picks on it. Well at least I caught it before it hit the gas tank.
